England Women's coach Hope Powell linked with Grimsby Town job

England women's coach Hope Powell has emerged as a shock contender for the vacant Grimsby Town hotseat.

Lincoln City's League Two rivals dispensed with the services of their manager Mike Newell late on Sunday.

And while initial reports had highlighted the current list of probable applicants on the managerial merry go round, the Mariners could be on the cusp of setting football history by employing the first women manager.

Powell, who guided the England women's team to the final of the European Championships this summer, has been mooted in the past to be interested in taking over a Football League club.

I had a little chuckle when I first read it but I'm not sure what I make of it tbh.

Will be interesting to read Dangerous Tiger's views. lol

Because she has no real football league experince

She's hardly going for a job at a top Championship side.

Where the hell are you suppose to gain league experience if you don't start at somewhere like Grimsby?

She's done alright with the national womens side, see no reason why she shouldn't be given a crack at the mens game.

She has some managerial experience though, more than Chris Sutton before he was given a Football League job.

Footballs gone mad if she gets it ....

Hardly. She's done a great job with the England women's side and gender shouldn't be any more of a barrier in football than it is anywhere else in life.

Be honest though if we were linked with her would you be happy ? Who can honestly say they want a woman as a manger ?

Its all to much pc this day.

If she did a great job with Grimsby and she ever had the credentials necessary to push this football club on then I don't see why not. She's earned the respect in the women's game so why shouldn't she challenege herself to do well in the men's game.

But Grimsby don't have to appoint her though, she's just been linked with the job.

If she gets it then good luck, if she doesn't then she can try again somewhere else.

Just cant see the players standing for it ,whether its right or wrong she wont get the respect

A women should not be allowed to manage a mens team, especially at that level !

Are you Mike Newell in disguise?

Seriously, if she can do a job at that level, and the Grimsby board think this, and she herself has the guts to take it on, give her a chance at least.

Men are allowed to manage womens teams. Don't see why women can't manage mens. Not the greatest of arguments I know, but if she gets the job let's see how she does befroe judging her.

I would be more than happy to have "Women only" football, and "Men only" football, with regards to coaching staff as well.

Its just my opinion, keep the gender seperate in this sport. The same argument exists for men coaching womens team ....

Will she do a good job? Yes, she might, im not doubting that. If she does, fair play; But i can see it hard to gain the respect of the players.

Won't be too long till FIFA / UEFA bring a rule saying that you need "3 female players" per team!!
