Edmund Posted 25 November 2009 Share Posted 25 November 2009 Almost seven years after their full studio album, 2003's 100th Window, trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack are ready to release more dubby darkness into the world. Their fifth full-length, Heligoland, is out February 9 via Virgin in the U.S. (February 8 in the UK). (Heligoland is "a small German archipelago in the North Sea," according to our friends at Wikipedia.) The album features an enviable list of vocal contributors: Damon Albarn, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, Elbow's Guy Garvey, Martina Topley-Bird, Hope Sandoval, and Horace Andy. Albarn also plays bass on the track "Flat of the Blade". The Adebimpe-featuring track "Pray for Rain" and the Andy-featuring "Splitting the Atom" were both featured on the recent Splitting the Atom EP. The Bristol duo also tapped Portishead's Adrian Utley to play guitar on a track, and DFA's Tim Goldsworthy contributed here and there. As previously reported, a Heligoland remix album by none other than Burial is in the works as well. Heligoland's ten tracks are listed in order below: Heligoland: 01 Pray for Rain [ft.Tunde Adebimpe] 02 Babel [ft. Martina Topley-Bird] 03 Splitting The Atom [ft. Robert del Naja, Grant Marshall, and Horace Andy] 04 Girl I Love You [ft. Horace Andy] 05 Psyche [ft. Martina Topley-Bird] 06 Flat of the Blade [ft. Guy Garvey] 07 Paradise Circus [ft. Hope Sandoval] 08 Rush Minute [ft. Robert del Naja] 09 Saturday Come Slow [ft. Damon Albarn] 10 Atlas Air [ft. Robert del Naja]

intotheforest Posted 30 November 2009 Share Posted 30 November 2009 Only have greatest hits? Anyone wanna recommend me some more of their stuff? My mate said Mezzanine? Mezzanine is one of the best albums I've ever brought. Can't recommend it enough. Weirdly the lyrics of songs on that album related to how I have felt and things that have happened in my life this past year. Very hypnotic and melodic, just a perfect chill out album. The thing I will always say about them is keep listening to the albums. The amount of folks who listen to them once and then say how bad they are is unreal. They're fantastic if you give them a few chances. The thing I love is how the albums never age. In fact alot of their albums seem to display the way music will vere in a few years time; take 100th wiindow for example. Splitting the Atom was a good song however I personally felt Bulletproof Love should have been the single off the album. I can't describe how much I'm looking forward to this album. Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 January 2010 Share Posted 14 January 2010 First single out Feb 9th (though sensibly, get the album on the 8th (what am I saying? Most people on here will/have already illegally download(ed) it anyhow ) Awesome song! Hope Sandoval's vocals are perfect for this. Dark, dark, dark. Might get some of her post-Mazzy Star stuff. I love this song it's immense!! have you seen the official video with the song as background music to some old ex pornstar from the 70's being interviewed? it's very bizarre. hairy Posted 21 January 2010 Share Posted 21 January 2010 Just a heads up that the itunes release will have six extra tracks to it. Two of them totally exclusive to that release. Again, Japan has a two CD release with four (?) extra tracks to the rest of the world.
Edmund Posted 5 February 2010 Author Share Posted 5 February 2010 Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Breakage rmx) – free download http://www.phuturelabs.com/word/chatter/ma...-free-download/ Standing out as one of the best moments from the new album “Heligoland”, Breakage has done a rather fine job on the remix. It’s a bit dubsteppy it’s a bit housey it’s a bit good and when the 2 Bad Mice breakbeat drops about 4 minutes in, it just becomes amazing. Edmund Posted 5 February 2010 Author Share Posted 5 February 2010 The Emika one? it's just a stunning piece of work left me begging for more but can't seem to find anything else Yeah that's the one. Dark yet stunning. It says it was released as an EP but the other tracks seem to be remixes. I've been listening to it off youtube on my headphones so haven't done it it justice yet until I buy it and crank it on the system. Ninjatunes always come with the goods. Been listening to a lot of Amon Tobin recently. Especially love this single : name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">Gorgeous.... They certainly do although The Qemists album was crap and I really didn't get The Bug album either! They have produced some stunning records over the years through Ninja Tune, Big Dada etc they really are at the forefront of independent electronic music that really pushes the barriers

Edmund Posted 5 February 2010 Author Share Posted 5 February 2010 Nice little tune, but whats with the 2 minutes silence at the end? Tribute to Phillip Glass? Not to sure, the song doesn't contain the silence as I know of (not one of those end the album things). I'm guessing the guy just wanted to carry the video on. Is that a Phillip Glass video or are you referring to the samples used?

I'd post a YouTube video of said piece of music, but there's really no point (interesting to see if there IS a video of 4'33" though... I'm off to have a look!)
