Vlad The Impaler Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 I'm not one for starting new topics but I can't help but have a little rant about what's happening. Why is Pearson consistenly refusing to play 2 proper wingers, when we have N'Guessan, Adams, Dyer and Gradel available? I've never been a fan of Oakley on the right and I think he is far more effective in the centre. People complain about us not scoring enough goals, when the actual problem is not the strikers, it's the team selection. Our strikers get absoloutely terrible service bar the odd pass by Wellens, I just find it so frustrating as we have the potential to be a much better side and in an even better position than we are now but we decide to stick with a midfield that can't create and has no spark about it whatsoever. What has Adams done wrong exactly? He is desperate for a game, and as you can clearly see he wants to do well for us and give 100%. N'Guessan has 3 goals to his name already this season and Gradel is putting in some good performances for Leeds albeit in a league below. We have some good footballers in our side that like to get down and pass the ball, yet we still opt for the long ball option which leads to the opposing team coming back at us more often than not. Look at our performance against QPR, yes Oakley was on the right but the ball was nearly always played into feet with some outstanding one touch slick passes, we haven't played or even tried to play like that since. I would just love to see us play 4-4-2, with wingers running down the line and getting their crosses in for the strikers to feed off. It's not rocket science, the back four give the ball to a midfielder who has come deep, play a few passes before spotting the wide men making a run and playing the ball to them, resulting in a cross which our strikers have severely lacked this season. Okay it's not as simple as that but you can understand my point, hopefully I shouldn't complain really, i'm ecstatic with where we are in the league in all honesty, I just feel that we will quickly be sussed out by teams and fall into mid-table if we carry on playing all Oakley, Wellens and King in midfield. BTW before anyone starts i'm a big Nigel Pearson fan, he's worked wonders for this club and i'll support whatever decision he chooses, These points have just been annoying me for some time though. Rant over.

Hmm, that's probably Nige's way of looking at it aswell and I can see your point but don't you agree that our team is in need of some energy and pace?
davieG Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 Because our midfield isn't strong enough with just the 2 from 3 of Oakley, King and Wellens. To compensate we are in effect playing 3 midfielders and if we're feeling adventurous 1 winger.

chesterfox Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Hmm, that's probably Nige's way of looking at it aswell and I can see your point but don't you agree that our team is in need of some energy and pace? some good points Vlad and a problem at the heart of many peoples' frustrations at the moment - I think it is indeed that we are not good enough with 2 of the 3 midfielders. Also I think that NP changes the side and changes tactics depending on the opposition. He also has to keep players happy as we have a big squad of players - this imo is a sign of weakness and never works. You should find your best side and stick to it because they then know the style of football that makes you succesful. Another point is that Nguessan as a perfect example is not quite good enough - yes he has scored three goals but every second game after a good game he is diabolical - similarly with Dyer. Gallacher has been the biggest disappointment whilst not really having had a fair run - he really should be pushing for a more regular spot. However in Nige we trust - I think he is also aware of these dilemmas but to date he has mostly got it right so we have to have faith. Unfortunately the higher you go the worse the quality of football becomes(if you believe good football is about expansive attractive play)
