tartanowl Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 "Sheffield United have started legal action over the choice of Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough ground as a potential stadium for the 2018 World Cup ahead of Bramall Lane. The city of Sheffield is braced for a legal battle over the decision to put Hillsborough forward as the stadium for the 2018 World Cup United believe Wednesday have been shown favouritism by Sheffield City Council in the speed with which planning permission was granted for renovations included in their bid. It is claimed the process took a matter of weeks, when such an application can take years. United, who had been firm favourites and had worked closely with the Council in the Sheffield tender, are taking their complaints to the Ombudsman before seeking an independent judicial review, if necessary. Wednesday’s extra room for fan zones and so forth outside the ground won them the vote. But there are major doubts at United, who have the advantage of a wealthy owner in Kevin McCabe and a more modern ground, that Wednesday can fund their building work through cash flow, as they have promised. United’s sense of injustice has not been tempered by the fact that the city’s most influential politicians - David Blunkett, Angela Smith, Roy Hattersley and Clive Betts - are all Wednesday supporters." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-1...urt-battle.html This could potentially cost our city millions. They'd rather drag the name of our city through the mud and courts again and embarrass themselves nationally rather than congratulate us on winning the bid. Relegated fairly and squarely - SUE. Lose the World Cup bid - SUE. We offered to share and have a joint bid with both grounds. They refused it. We put our own bid together, win, and they kick up a stink. I wonder whats going to be next? Sueing officials over matchday decisions? It seems that if they don't get their own way in everything they want to and will go down the legal route. I never used to hate United despite them being local rivals. I absolutely despise them now. Classless doesn't begin to cover it.

MPH Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 someone at brammal lane clearly thinks more of themselves then they should do...
Guest Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 What a bunch of twonks. Lisa, can we take action against Forest and MK Dons?
Ashley Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 Pathetic by the Blades on all acounts. When the venue for 2018 is chosen dosent some of the grounds chosen get knocked out leaving so many left for the actual venues?
Guest Bilo Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 Pathetic from the Blades, they really are one of the mardiest clubs around. As someone has already said, some of the grounds already chosen will fall by the wayside if England win the 2018 bid. There's no guarantee that Hillsborough would host any games (though I'd rather it did over some of the grounds chosen.) If England fail to win the bid, Sheffield United will have lost and dragged the name of their city through the mud for precisely dick.
Fosse Boy Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 I'm sure the Sheff Yoo stewards would love the opportunity to show their muscle on the international stage.
Tilley Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 Absolute arses and tartanowl is right, they were relegated fairly and squarely.
Guest ttfn Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 Sheffield United were already the most despicable club in the football league: 1) Suing over getting relegated. 2) Standing by Chris Morgan Now this. It's a joke. Blades fans must be ashamed of their club

Maybes Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 This is what happens when they are the smallest club in sheffield.
Fosse Boy Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 MK Dons anyone? Suffice to say I was thinking that.
Guest ttfn Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 MK Dons anyone? MK Dons don't bother me. Winkleman has taken a club that was on its knees and made it a viable long-term prospect.
Simi Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 *In before thread turns sour with talk of Dons.* On topic, have to agree with Sir Maybury, this is what happens when the small club in a big town pipes up.
Fosse Boy Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 MK Dons don't bother me. Winkleman has taken a club that was on its knees and made it a viable long-term prospect. Hold me back lads, hold me back... :protest:
lou Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 Winkleman did no such thing. He started a new club from scratch in a different city. Nothing to do with Wimbledon.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 Sorry, but it's Hillsborough every time for me. Plus the fact that one of the most disgusting men I know (and detest) is a pig-blunt shithead....I really hate United. Come on Wednesday!!!!
Ultra Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 The blunts should just hang fire on this. As it stands, England's bid for the 2018 World Cup is going to collapse anyway.
Guest ttfn Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Winkleman did no such thing. He started a new club from scratch in a different city. Nothing to do with Wimbledon. Sorry to be off topic but I didn't know where else to put this. Winkleman bought the club in administration ('on its knees'? check) and turned it into a viable long-term prospect (not in admin any more, properly run, world cup match there, got a shot at promotion again - check). I don't know why people are so sentimental about it. It's not like Wimbledon were a great club with great tradition. They leeched off other clubs' away support for years because they had no fans of their own. When Wimbledon played Rotherham in 2003, 849 people turned up. Pathetic. A move to MK/Dublin had been mooted for years. Maybe if people cared so much they should have gone to the games, putting money into the club and helping stave off administration. Yet the team moves to Milton Keynes, turns in decent crowds, and people are upset about it? Clearly the people of Milton Keynes wanted a football team more than the people of Wimbledon and they've been rewarded accordingly.

Bryn Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 If MK wanted a club that badly they should have formed their own, and started at the bottom rung of the ladder just like everyone else. Wimbledon should have stayed in Wimbledon or died.

Maybe if people cared so much they should have gone to the games, putting money into the club and helping stave off administration. Probably because the move to MK had already been confirmed and sanctioned by the FA and Football League at that point, and so all the true Wimbledon fans had already set up AFC Wimbledon in protest. Plenty of opinions on it in here... http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.ph...mp;hl=wimbledon http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.ph...mp;hl=wimbledon
