David Haye Vs John Ruiz

David Haye is expecting a rough ride in his first world heavyweight title defence against John Ruiz on April 3.

The WBA champion is preparing for a range of dirty tricks from American Ruiz as he aims to stay on course for a world title unification clash against one of the Klitschko brothers, either Wladimir or WBC holder Vitali.

But Haye, 29, insists he is not looking past Ruiz, a former world champion whose only stoppage defeat was 14 years ago.

The Londoner is promising to be more aggressive against Ruiz, 38, than he was when he won the world title with a points win over Russian giant Nikolai Valuev in November.

He said: "I'm expecting to get a fight off Ruiz. He's got a new coach and I'm hearing that he's really fired up for me and has got a game plan.

"I'm expecting an ugly fight and I'm expecting him to try and butt me, hit me low and dislocate shoulders.

"I'm expecting all sorts of tricks from this man because he has been around a long time and is a seasoned pro.

"The only time he has been down was against David Tua a long time ago and that was just a freak. He has fought some big names like Evander Holyfield and Hasim Rahman and taken some big shots and they have not been able to get through.

"He's not as easy to hit as people think. People dismiss him and I know he's banking on me doing the same.

"He's always fit and the last man punching at the end of 12 rounds.

"He has got a way of nullifying opponents' attributes and I've not got to fall into that trap.

"But it won't be like my last fight. We will be able to have a slugfest because he's the same height as me so it will be a lot more exciting.

"I can go back to what I usually do which is throwing clusters of punches. He's not going to believe how quick I am."

Wbo-IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko, 33, faces American Eddie Chambers in front of 50,000 fans at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany tomorrow and a victory for the Ukrainian and Haye will set up the chance of a world title unification clash later this year.

But Haye will push for a fight against Klitschko to be staged in Britain after slamming German crowds as 'dull'.

Haye pulled out of fighting Wladimir in Germany in June due to a back injury and claims he will be in a stronger negotiating position, so long as he manages to see off Ruiz.

He added: "The big fighters for me are from eastern Europe so the fights will happen either in the UK or in Germany.

"Ideally I would love the fights to happen over here because everyone knows in Germany the atmosphere is just c** p and dull.

"I would hate to have one of my defining fights in front of a dull atmosphere and a load of boring Germans.

"If he fights me it will be on TV all over the world, not just in Germany, but he has got to realise that and take that into consideration when we sit around the table.

"I wasn't the champion last time but I am now. I just hope he recognises that when he comes to the negotiating table, otherwise it will not happen at all."

Was planning to go to this but had to spend money on other things, would have been a good weekend in Manchester, Oh well be a good fight, tbh you'll see more on TV anyway, the atmosphere would be good there i'd imagine but I think i'd rather see more action on TV for much cheaper.

True, I've always wondered how people can even see the fight sitting high up and at the back of those big stadia in Vegas etc.

Yeah well the most expensive tickets we're at ringside which imo you wouldn't see much as you're level with the ring, lower tier which is where I was looking at being as it's higher up but still reasonably close to the ring we're mid range price then tickets in the upper tier where you're not really going to see that much were the cheap tickets, as I said I reckon the atmosphere would be amazing and it'd be a good weekend but for actually watching the fight I think TV is the best bet, don't get me wrong i'd have loved to go.

Can't wait! Gonna be good!

Do you have any idea what time the fight will be starting?

I keep hearing just before 11pm it is scheduled, but when the fights happen in America we have all heard the fight scheduled for 3am or 4am when it doesn't actually happen till 5am :giggle:

My mate asked if I wanted to go out because it was on, but being a relatively early fight no doubt there would just be people generally going out not actually for the fight blocking the screens, e.t.c, at the same time I do wanna go out, got a couple of mates coming round mine to watch it though, not ordered it yet so i'll see what they wanna do.

Yeah you're probably right, they always start later than advertised.

Hopefully there's a stream knocking about.

Programme starts at 9 - so I'd be guessing 11 ish for the main event. (I have to go Tesco first I'll let you know how it goes Edmund)

Went into the bookies yesterday - Ruiz is 66-1 to win in every round.

Ruiz is 10 years older and a good few more fights and losses under his belt - He could last 12 rounds against Haye though they have the same reach but slightly different fighting styles - Ruiz won't get inside enough, Haye to control the ring.

I reckon a late knockout/stopage round 9 is 16-1; round 12 is 25-1........ I'll have a punt at round 8/9.

This'll either go the distance of go to Haye via stopage methinks.

Just booked this on Box-Office :D

Was debating whether to bother paying but the undercard has swayed it for me. Some magnificent boxing on the undercard guaranteed. And then hopefully Haye Ruiz is a good un cos there is that chance it could be a bit of a bore (personally think it will be entertaining).

Going for Haye to win in round 4. Would like to see Ruiz win again but doubt it will happen.

Think i'm betting £2 on David Haye Round 6 KO (12/1) and tempted to go £14 David Haye to win on points (5/2)

Not sure about points, think it might be a David Haye KO but the odds on points are so tempting.

Certainly better stuff than this turgid second card.

I was hoping for a bit more excitement in these fights, I thought we were gonna see a couple of classics!

I'm nervous already for the main event. Don't know why but I get like a right girl before the main fight everytime.
