adamkhalifa Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Don't really like having a go at the ref, but he and the rest of the mob, were poor last night.
Finnegan Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Maybe I'd need to watch it again more closely but I don't think Chopra showed intent on Wellens. Nor do I think he dived any more dramatically than any other striker would these days for the pen (though it shouldn't have been given for a prior offside.) Not quite sure I understand the hate. Bothroyd annoyed me far more throughout the game and Richie Wellens can count himself incredibly lucky he finished on the pitch. He's a battler, you have to admire that, but he's prone to be reckless and I thought he walked a fine line last night.
Edmund Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 In my opinion Wellens could've have easily got another yellow along with Solano. I don't think the reffing was diabolical, just inconsistent.
The Doctor Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Obtain a bit of balance young man - how Wellens escaped the full 90 minutes without a yellow is a wonder. The penalty was penalty, all be it, it could have been saved by an offside flag - I thought Webb was also very generous in not carding Bruce who should have cleared the thing in the first place Nobby clearly elbowed the ball in the box - one we got away with The Chopra incident was over played - booking maybe, but nothing more Webb managed to keep 22 players on the pitch - it would have been 5-a-side with Steve Bennett in charge he did get booked Rubbish - the ball was there, he could easily have taken it without touching wellens yet he ignored the ball and went studs first into wellens face - anything short of a red for that is a poor desicision. and before you bleat about bias and blue tinted specs - i'm not being bias. I saw the incident clearly and the rules of the game state that violent conduct is a red card. answer me this - What could be more violent than that?
Finnegan Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 he ignored the ball and went studs first into wellens face - anything short of a red for that is a poor desicision. The fuck game were you watching?
Ozwin Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 He got away with it because of his acting afterwards and the fact Wellens didn't make a meal out of it. You can bet your house on the fact if it was the other way round Chopra would have rolled around like he'd been shot.
The Doctor Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 The fuck game were you watching? the one on sky sports 1 between Cardiff city & Leicester city
marbelladave Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 6 Yellow cards to us against there what 3? They made just as many awful challenges some of which were worse then what our players got booked for and got no card at all. It is this bit that irritates me, he went on a booking spree of booking 5 leicester players in a matter of 5 minutes! Then cardiff made the same sort of challenges if not worse and were not booked at all. He made it impossible for a leicester player to make a challenge! it should be looked into. You say playing by the rule book and say players should have been off i agree with you. However he should be consistent for both sides and half of what he booked our players for were fair challenges, i wish i had recorded the game so i could make a compilation to show. I am not going to say more on the matter as i am still fuming! As I have said, I did not see it that way at all, apart from the King booking for which Chopra deserved a slap, I thought the decisions were pretty fair as we committed more fouls than they did. I did not see the Chopra / Wellens incident so can not really comment. Generally I thought the ref did well as did most players when they were fouled. Chopra and Wellens were really the only players to 'go down easily' and although Chopra tried to get Bruce sent off, really shitty I thought, both Wellens and Howard were not averse to a moan themselves. All in all I thought the first 90 minutes were great entertainment and I thought Webb played a great role in that. Having said that, his performance was not at all consistent with the way games are refereed in the modern era, he took a much more 'old fashioned' approach than we are used to seeing and within the game itself I thought him pretty consistent, giving breaks to players on both sides and, King apart, giving cards only for repeat offenders. I can understand how frustrated any Leicester fan might be given the monumental effort our players put in, but in general I think Cardiff played the better football and that in the end was enough. Heart and determination only gets you so far and this season it got us further than anyone could reasonably expect.

Probably because the ref wasn't giving the majority of desicions against him rather letting it go instead.

Webb let a fair amount of contact go unpunished on all sides, contributed a lot to the game I thought. Generally few players made much of getting fouled and Webb took note of that and let the game flow as much as he could, it was very combative but rarely (if ever) nasty. Enjoyed the first 90 minutes a lot, extra time and the shoot out were much too tense to even watch, let alone enjoy!
potter3 Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Have you seen King's booking? King gets the ball, and Bothroyd spins around and collapses, clutching his leg. How can that receive the same punishment as Berner getting taken out on the edge of the box by arguably the last man?
burleighfox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 He had a shocker, plain and simple. Premiership referees shouldn't take charge of these games, and we've had two perfect examples of why in a matter of days. They're far too strict and let their reputation get the better of themselves. As Howard 'usually a good ref' Howard, stupid bookings for nothing challenges and constantly letting Chopra, Bothroyd and Ledley get away with murder, players shouldn't be complaining or trying to start trouble for other players when they've been awarded a free kick (or penalty in Chopra's main case). Cardiff are a good side and I won't take the victory away from them as gutted as I am, but the behaviour and attitude of those three suggests that they feel themselves to be too good for this league, what a great example they're setting.
