Matt Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Not blaming him, have gotta question some of his and his assistants decisions though. Also the penalty that bought Cardiff back into the game - Offside on the lead up? Has that cost us a chance of a £90 million game? Is he really the best we've got and therefore a representative of English referees for the World Cup? Don't get me wrong it happens, as we know and have experienced all season referee's get things wrong (Everyone makes mistakes), move on, but all are valid points, and if Howard Webb is the best England have to offers - surely that tells you something about the state of refereeing in this country?
Narborough_fox Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 1] Assistant's fault 2] Yes he has 3] Nah DB11 is!
Corky Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 He was poor for both sides, though I felt they got more of the 50/50s.
orangecity23 Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Who's the competition though? Andre Mariner, Mark Clattenberg? Being the best ref in the prem is like having the largest cock in an impotent mens club. All well and good, but ultimately not very impressive.
stivesfox Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Howard Webbs assistant the one on the far side was a joke, off side for the goal, a few other contentious decisions. I feel the football league should not allow Premier league officials to do play off semi final games. The football in the football league is a lot more physical and faster than the premier league, some of the tackles that were put in were pretty fair, however he bottled booking Chopra, for quite hefty challenge, then 2 mins later is booking Wellens for far less challenge. Howard Webb like Alan Wiley and all these other officials have made bad decisions. They should let the two highest averaged Football league referees who referee the football league games week in week out take these matches, not glamour refs who are media hungry!
martyn Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 The key decision was the offside leading to the penalty, it wasnt even close.
Nationwider Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 As an experienced ref, I think he managed the occasion well. A less experienced ref might have gone at the cards like confetti at a wedding. Wellens, Bothroyd, Chopra, Ledley, Solano might all have gone for countless petty fouls so he did well to keep 22 on the pitch. As a consequence, his decisions looked a bit random at times. And he bloody loves himself and the camera. If there's ever 'Howard Webb - The Movie', I want him to be played by Pete Postlethwaite.
orangecity23 Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 King's booking was absolutely ludicrous. Didn't touch Bothroyd, got a toe on the ball. It was the inconsistency that made his performance so poor. For King to be booked, but Etuhu got away with two elbows to the face without a caution?
Donut Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 After everything that has happened during the game tonight, the last thing im going to come on here and do is debate the quality of Howard Webb as a referee. Its not going to change the result and there is no need for a blame scapegoat
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Threads like this make us look so bitter in defeat.
Narborough_fox Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 To be fair the state of refereeing has decline ALOT since Dermot Gallagher retired now he was a good referee, will be nice to see Halsey back in Prem soon!
Aberdeen_fox Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Thought he was awful tonight, not just for Leicester but for Cardiff. Embarrassing that he'll be England rep at the World Cup.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Webb's performance was nothing short of pathetic. The penalty decision that went Cardiff's way has probably cost us £90 million thanks to his incompetence and he utterly failed to assert his authority against the most vile and whining pair of bitches I've seen in this division in Chopra and Bothroyd. If he's the best referee this country has, further investment in referee training is desperately, desperately needed.
Matt Posted 12 May 2010 Author Posted 12 May 2010 Threads like this make us look so bitter in defeat. Despite in the first sentance, the first 3 words saying - Not blaming him? All i'm questioning is a few of his/and his assistants decisions tonight - 1 leading to a goal, as I said it happens, it'll happen again, get over it, the main point i'm also question and is in the title - Is he the best England have got and be representing England in the World Cup? Perhaps this thread should be in General sport, or even the World Cup section.
atw88 Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Piss off was it offside Solano and Wellens were lucky to be on the pitch, you lot were as fooking dirty as they come.

Obtain a bit of balance young man - how Wellens escaped the full 90 minutes without a yellow is a wonder. The penalty was penalty, all be it, it could have been saved by an offside flag - I thought Webb was also very generous in not carding Bruce who should have cleared the thing in the first place Nobby clearly elbowed the ball in the box - one we got away with The Chopra incident was over played - booking maybe, but nothing more Webb managed to keep 22 players on the pitch - it would have been 5-a-side with Steve Bennett in charge

The football in the football league is a lot more physical and faster than the premier league Ok. And as for 'losing out on £90 million', don't be daft. Chin up anyway. With the shite that's coming down from the PL you should be better pressed to challenge next season than this year really

Perhaps this thread should be in General sport, or even the World Cup section. Put it this way - did he go running up to players flashing his card everywhere? When chosing to book someone, did he give himself time and composure to think about his decisoon? On balance, did he get the majority of decisions 'he gave' correct? Did the game flow? Had you really noticed him up until the penalty incident? I think all in all, he's as a decent a ref as you can get when you have any bias involved. And in terms of my comments about the thread, it's not just down to the thread maker but to the people who subsequently post in them. And lets face it - every bloody week at least someone on here has an issue with the officials.
StanSP Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Piss off was it offside Solano and Wellens were lucky to be on the pitch, you lot were as fooking dirty as they come. What's your defence for: Etuhu/Bothroyd using elbows on more than one occasion? Chopra's stamp on Wellens and getting away with it? Your defender's cynical challenge on Berner late in the match? Andf going back a while: Gyepes' rugby tackle on Vaughan?

atw88 Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 Wellens going in two footed Solano tugging and pulling all over the place Howard being the thug that he is Waghorn falling over. you're no saving angels.
