Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss, who yesterday took part in a live webchat on the Evening Mail website, said: “I’ve spoken to Bondy and I don’t think he will be re-signing with us. There’s a couple of League One clubs chasing him. “He’s done fantastic for us and deserves his chance to go and play at a higher level. “He’s also been offered contracts by three or four teams at this level, offers that are three or four times more than we can make. He did say, however, that if he did stay at this level, it would be with us. Bondy has been a great servant for Barrow AFC and you can’t knock the lad for wanting to progress his career. “We offered him a two-year deal last summer, but he only wanted one year. We offered him another two-year contract before Christmas and he’s been thinking about it since. “Wherever he goes, I hope it works out well for him. “He’s not going for the money, he’s not that type of lad, he’s going for football reasons, to further his career.” Wigan-based Bond joined the Bluebirds in the summer of 2006 after being released by Crewe Alexandra. He has made 206 appearances, scoring 28 goals. Last season was his best yet in an AFC shirt. His much-improved performances brought him nine goals and a string of rave reviews. Bond, whose last appearance was in the FA Trophy win over Stevenage Borough at Wembley, also won two awards at the end-of-season presentation night. If he does leave, Bond will do so as a free agent. The seven-day deadline for the six other out-of-contract players offered new deals expired today. Bayliss yesterday said that one of those six, teenage central midfielder James Owen, has agreed a deal, but he was still waiting for decisions from skipper Paul Jones, winger Paul Rutherford, left-back Paul Edwards and goalkeepers Stuart Tomlinson and Tim Deasy. “We want them all to stay, but it’s up to them,” said the AFC co-chief. “The two keepers work brilliantly together and we want them both here next season. “We had league clubs enquiring about Stuart Tomlinson during last season, that shows how highly he is rated. “We have other keepers lined up in case they leave, but we hope that is not the case.” On James Owen agreeing a deal, Bayliss added: “There’s a little bit of both Bondy and Robin Hulbert in James Owen. He is one we feel will grow into a really good player. He has a fantastic attitude.” After taking part in yesterday’s webchat at the Evening Mail offices in Barrow, Bayliss, along with fellow joint-manager Darren Sheridan, met the AFC directors for talks over their own contracts and next season’s budget. During the webchat, the AFC co-boss confirmed the club would continue to operate a near full-time set-up next season, with players training three-days-a-week in Salford.
Fox You Forest Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 Been linked with him before. Probably just been regurgitated.
blueblood88 Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 This is exactly the sort of player we need to take us to the prem <_<
Kierzz Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Just found this http://www.timesandstar.co.uk/leicester-city-set-to-join-carlisle-utd-in-bid-to-sign-barrow-s-andy-bond-1.709670?referrerPath=opinion The transfer might go public soon, leicester are so much more appealling to a player like that than carlisle
dandannieldanok Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 This is exactly the sort of player we need to take us to the prem <_< He could be for all any of us know. Michael Morrison was plucked from the non-league and now doesn't look at all out of place in the Championship. The same could happen with this lad if we get him.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Just because he comes from Non-League doesn't mean he'll be useless.. Mackail-Smith and Boyd of Peterborough were good from non-league plus a certain Michael Kightly at Wolves - who I rate very highly !!
teblin Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 There's good players at all levels of the game. It down to luck and disire whether they make it or not.
shiv Posted 20 May 2010 Posted 20 May 2010 People forget we got Michael Morrison from Cambridge as well. What a signing he turned out to be...
MikeyT Posted 5 June 2010 Posted 5 June 2010 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11712_6190095,00.html http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11712_6190095,00.html Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has confirmed he is still interested in signing non-league midfielder Andy Bond. The 24-year-old is available on a free transfer from Barrow and is on the radar of several Football League clubs. Championship duo Leicester City and Preston North End have been linked with the former Crewe Alexandra youngster and Carlisle have also shown an interest. Abbott has held talks about bringing Bond to Brunton Park over the summer and is not giving up on a deal in the face of stiff competition for his signature. "We have discussed Andy and he is still on radar," Abbott told the News & Star. "Our interest in him isn't dead, it is still ongoing. He is among a number of live targets."
