shen Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 So what, if there are better players elsewhere it makes no difference. My point was that despite Italy's top teams being more or less without Italians, they've had great success on the international scene in recent years. In that respect, I can't really understand the argument that the "Sky TV 4" are hindering the progress of the England NT.
CosbehFox Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 I'd think that all the imports will have improved the English players in general. Training with some of the best talent in the world will surely have rubbed off on players like Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney and co. After all, look at how many from the Italian and German NT are playing outside of their respective leagues. The explanation must be found elsewhere... It also in part works against them. With little doubt, quality or no quality depending on your opinion; the Premiership is a fiercely competitive division and it calls upon your fitness and mental attritbutes. You will improve as a player but you've also got remember that these Premiership players have to play or at least participate at a high rate of fitness...38 times a season. If you look at different sports, athletes and teams' performance is built normally around one event per year. Olympics as an example...they win events before and after but all the work is just for the one event. In the Premiership, you are expected to keep up that level every single week. Come to a tournament, you've had enough, you wanna rest.

I don't really buy into this burnt out thing, and even then, shouldn't it affect all the foreign stars playing in the Premier League too? Surely players are (or should be) motivated for a World Cup, so the extra physical exertion should not be a great concern.

Aren't their 'top' players participating in other top leagues though unlike the English players?

Dames Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 At this moment in time i think the bloke is absolutely spot on.
