Fantastic to see a politician knowing exactly what they're talking about and not dodging questions, whatever their stripes, and much of what he says makes a lot of sense.
Webbo Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 He has a lot of cross party support, although I'm sure certain members on here will claim he's deliberately trying to starve the poor to death. I hope he succeeds but whether it will work or not I don't know.
Guest Bilo Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 There is a general feeling across the parties that IDS is actually one of the best brains in the Tory party, and that his disastrous stint as party leader a few years ago has led the public to underestimate him. Similar things have been said about William Hague as well. Say what you like about the Tories, and let's face it many of us do, but they do have some genuinely gifted politicians on their benches.
Jon the Hat Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 One of the things I am really impressed about so far, is the fact that people like IDS and Andrews Lansley have been working on these things for years, and now they are implementing their ideas. Compare the actions of the coalition so far with when New Labour came into power and it feels like they are a serious group of people with real belief in real policies. Whether you like those policies or not, it is quite impressive, particularly as the Tories were condemned for having no policies during the election campaign.
Nickfosse Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Your support for the Conservative Party is naive in the extreme. They are the party of the ruling class who have no interest in ordinary people whatsoever. That non-privately educated, non-millionaire, non land-owning folk should support or vote for them is one of the great mysteries of the democratic age. Their clever rhetoric disguises their true desire, to squeeze every last penny out of the working class and screw us for their own ends. I promise you, I have had a lot to do with the tories and I could tell you stories that give away what they really think and would make your eyes water. Don't get conned by them. These guys are leading us into even tougher times and don't really care as long as they can look after their own. That they are propped by Clegg the diet tory makes it all an even greater disgrace.

Sounds like all politicians, once they get into parliament.
Nickfosse Posted 15 July 2010 Posted 15 July 2010 Sounds like all politicians, once they get into parliament. I'm not so sure Davie (and may I say at this point how much I appreciate your contributions to this forum) I have acted as advocate for several people who have found themselves in very tough places and the local Labour MP has gone to great lengths to help them. I've also seen the introduction of the minimum wage, surestart centres, working tax credits and children's tax credits to be of massive benefit for people who live on the city estates where I work. I'm just no so sure that Dave and his Eton rifles get that.

I just do not believe that party politics works in the best interest of the people.
l444ry Posted 20 August 2010 Posted 20 August 2010 Will Cameron apologise for accusing Labour of lies over winter fuel payments?
