Sorry to sound like a neanderthal, but where have these guys with improbably weird sounding names come from all of a sudden?

Can you imagine a commentator screaming "SCHLUPP!!!" as he strikes a last-minute volley? (though that might be unlikely, he could be a keeper for all I know...)

Decent enough 4. 3. 3 or 4.4.2 but needs strength in depth and to be honest a bit more quality.

Paul Gallagher normally hates pre-season training – but he says he is enjoying preparations under new Leicester City boss Paulo Sousa.

The City play-maker does not enjoy the rigours of a normal pre-season and the endless running involved, but he is enjoying Sousa's approach.

The former Portugal international has said he is placing the emphasis on technique and quality in possession, and all pre-season sessions so far have involved the ball.

The City squad are now continuing their preparations in Slovenia and Gallagher said the training was right up his street.

1x1.GIF "I don't normally enjoy it (pre-season) but this one has not been too bad," he said.

"We got the ball out on the first day and we've been playing football ever since. That's the manager's mentality and I'm enjoying it.

"It's been perfect for me as you don't usually see the ball for a while. Usually, we don't do technical stuff, but we have gone straight into playing little games which is good.

"It is still tough as you are still getting the legs and your touch going after a few weeks' break.

"It's my first trip but the lads have said it is all right (in Slovenia). We can get some good training under our belts and work as hard as we can.

"There will be some fresh faces which gives everyone a lift, but we all know we are battling for a first-team place."

Sousa has taken a full squad with him to Slovenia, including striker DJ Campbell, who appeared to have no future at the club under previous manager Nigel Pearson, and new signing Miguel Vitor.

Several of the club's first-year professionals have also joined the training camp for experience.

As well as the training, City are hoping to play a practice game before they return to England and kick off their pre-season friendly programme against Rotherham at the Don Valley Stadium on Tuesday, July 20 (kick-off 7.45pm).

City's other pre-season fixture are at Oxford United on Saturday, July 24 (3pm), at Peterborough United on Tuesday, July 27 (7.45pm) and at home to Sunderland on Saturday, July 31 (3pm).

I really hope our players are prepared fitness wise for a long season ahead.

A player enjoying pre seasons not always a good thing. It's positive to hear them working on technical skills and enjoying it etc but a solid fitness base is a must.

Theyve both been in the Academy for a while. Pretty sure Johns been here longer and hes a local lad, nifty little winger!

Both highly rated, I personally think Jorrin John is quality.

When players start saying that are enjoying not having to run, that is a little worrying IMO

You get some players (like Gallagher to an extent) that have a lot of natural ability when working with a ball who should be really focussing on their fitness. I remember Collymore getting interviewed during the 2006 world cup (well after he had retired) and he was asked about whether it's hard to regain your touch and abillity after being out for a long time (there must have been a high profile player a the time that was returning to a team who hadn't played for a while) Collymore shocked the interviewer by saying that technically he would be good enough to walk into any of the top sides in the world (including Brazil) if he had a good preseason behind him. He said the natural players never lose their ability as they don't know anything different, it's not something you can lose or improve very much in training.

He's also mentioned in his book about certain players having to spend hours on the training field doing ball work to turn them into average players where as Collymore reckoned it was pointless for him. He even reckoned he had a lot of natural fitness too and I think he mentioned getting MOTMs with no training behind him.

Gallagher's weakness IMO is his strength.. It's this he should be working on over the preseason
