bald reynard Posted 11 July 2010 Posted 11 July 2010 I thought the team were due to fly out to Slovenia this afternoon (Sunday 11th). I've seen no announcement of the squad (other than a poster here saying that it's a 23 man - without 2 "big names" !) - has anyone else heard anything ? They're leaving it a bit late to tell aren't they ?!
Cropwellfox Posted 11 July 2010 Posted 11 July 2010 Direct contrast to previous years where we have had loads of pre season pics, tour info etc etc etc. Certainly adds to the feeling that things behind the scenes are still very much up in the air. Think this runs deeper than shirt manufacturer but could be wrong....

Wymsey Posted 11 July 2010 Posted 11 July 2010 Tried it myself and also he said he doesn't want to play for us again before going to the seaside, so i presume he wants to do this instead of facing the players he allegedly didn't get on with such as Oakley. (Remember he had some sort of a bust up?

davieG Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 From today's Merc Leicester City jetted off for their pre-season training camp in Slovenia yesterday and new manager Paulo Sousa wants to use the week away to get to know his new players. Sousa said he was reasonably familiar with the main City players who were regulars under Nigel Pearson last season as City reached the play-offs. But he believes the Slovenia trip will help him to get to know the rest of his squad and their characters. The City boss added it would be useful for the players to get to know him and his new backroom staff so they understood what was required from them this season. "Pre-season is very important especially when we start a new project," said Sousa. "But also every year it's important for us to go out of our usual environment. "I will be able to understand better the players and their personalities, their character, and we can build the team better if we are close and understand each other better. "I'm always looking for quality rather than quantity. The quality makes the difference – quantity sometimes doesn't make the difference. "I spend a lot of hours reflecting what the players have done in training, from that they can develop. I will keep doing this. "I don't want to be only a good friend to them but I want to be their manager, with respect, and to expect from them what is the minimum that I expect from myself. "We can achieve together what we want. We can achieve the stars." City have not lined up an official friendly match while they are away but may play a behind-closed-doors training game. Sousa has already been impressed by the younger players at the club, and has vowed to work on bringing talented youngsters through from the academy to the first team. "They're doing a great job with good facilities in the academy, and I will work to reduce the bridge between first team and academy," he said. "It's something we need to invest in. If they invest a lot in the academy, we need to use that investment in the club. "We have already started by rewarding a player from the academy who did so well last season, Andy King, and he has signed a new contract."

We haven't had a great player like King come through from our supposed quality youth team in a while and it would be good to see some young blood in the team occasionally. Anyone reckon Luke O'Neil will be given more of a chance under Sousa- not seen much of him but heard he is a decent player?

No news of WHO is in the squad then - and who is not going ! I'm not getting at you davieG - I know you're just copying in what's in the Merc - but really it is ridiculous, that no one at the Club is telling us (or the Merc) what's happening with the Slovenia trip. I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories, but it does make you think that something's going on, that they don't want us plebs to know about ...... !

Now either the Merc are incompetent, uninterested or been warned off because I can't imagine it would have been that difficult to see who boarded the coach etc. Just speculating on possible reasons for the Club not wanting to tell anyone about who's going to Slovenia or what's happening there (conspiracy theories !):- 1) There are new players out there, who the Club don't want to 'let on about' yet - trialists, out-of-contract players not registered yet etc 2) There are squad members who are NOT out there and the Club don't want to tell you WHY they're not there - they've already been transferred, or in the process of going etc (my bet is this - Howard, Oakley, Neilson, the most likely - but possibly players that fans definitely wouldn't want to see go - Hobbs, Fryatt, Morrison, Berner etc !) 3) Everyone's in a kit (with sponsors) we haven't been told about yet 4) Suzie Q thinks the whole City squad is rubbish and has just gone out there with Bruno and Nelson for a holiday, before signing up the entire Portugese Under 21 team to replace them 5) Mad Mandy has lined up a rival deal to sell to the Yugoslav Mafia and they're checking out the team before deciding whether to take on the Far Eastern Triads for control of the Club

He's a great prospect I hope he gets a chance at fullback this season. When he played last season he played at centre back which is not his best position. He's a tough tackling player with pace he also has good positional sense, and should be given a chance ahead of Neilson and provide competion for Morrison if he is starting at fullback.
