stix Posted 1 September 2010 Posted 1 September 2010 I welcome people not signing this without knowing the detail - I would never sign a petition without knowing the ins and outs of a subject. If people do their research and favour what the Fosse boys are doing then they can sign this to 'show your support for Leicester City's Fosse Boys'. You'll notice that ballot papers do not include a manifesto - you'd hope by the point of signing the voter would have made their own decision Yes- but there is alot more publicity regarding a general election! I think the point people are trying to make is that rather than supporters of the fosse boys and the petition spend all day long explaining to everyone they know whats happened, a concise outline of what the fosse boys are about and what the current situation is could only benefit. It isnt a petition to join the fosse boys just one to show support for them.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 1 September 2010 Posted 1 September 2010 I think the petition is fine how it is, i dont like the idea of changing it once people have signed it it says, sign to show support thats what people are doing

stix Posted 1 September 2010 Posted 1 September 2010 Yes - dirty propoganda trying to pull you from one side to the other. Let's allow people to make up their own mind, eh? Cool. We are both on the same side here. Was simply putting my two penneth's worth in. I think it could of been a good idea had the petition not been up and running however anykind of tampering after people have signed could give LCFC some ammo on friday. Hope all goes well at the club-it best do anyway cos i want me one of them there scarves!!
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 1 September 2010 Posted 1 September 2010 I think the petition is fine how it is, i dont like the idea of changing it once people have signed it it says, sign to show support thats what people are doing Ok put it this way - the Petition has nothing on it, just support the Fosse Boys ok... what if you sign it and then the Fosse Boys decide to do something you wouldn't wish to support, like I don't know, invade Poland! (Extreme I know, but I understand that is effectively what the Nazi's did, got people to sign up not really knowing what they stood for) There is the danger here of being associated with something you may not 100% agree with which is why its a sensible idea to highlight the key points. The petition at the moment has no weight behind it, just 300 or so names saying they support the Fosse Boys which will essentially mean nothing to anyone who matters in decision making circles at LCFC. I think the comments that have been made about starting again with clear and concise points are well founded and should probably be taken on board if anybody actually wants to use the petition. In terms of the actual problem with standing, maybe the Fosse Boys need to be a bit more clever about this. I doubt the club can be seen to condone standing, it would be against Health & Saftey regulations and could result in a fine or even the closure of some sections of the ground. So how about sitting for breif periods when no one is singing, much like people do at Church - they stand to facilitate better vocals. I am sure the club would fine this easier to swallow. Lets face it standing in front of seats is no terracing, so until law is changed to bring in safe standing (and clubs find it cost effective to bring it in) we're not going to get what some people want so you have to be a bit more clever about it.

Yeah i dounderstand that actually, after the meeting on friday if needs be we will organise a new petition and the closure of ground sections wouldnt happen, if a big health and safety chief came to the walkers on a match day do you think he will be looking at 30 of us standing in an empty part of SK1 or L and K? and we know we wont get the club to let us stand, we never asked them to let us stand. we just want them to ignore us! and we really wish we had never that meeting in the first place. we jus wanted to ask fo flag poles.... and they said no anyway and they can ignore us because a home section of a stadium has NEVER been closed due to persistant standing! and i would be really shocked if anyone can find proof of fines being handed out to clubs or anything at all that has happened to a club because fans stand

I guess not only is Health & Saftey a consideration, but Insurance as well because if they are not following the law as it stands then that will invalidate any insurance they have in place to cover themselves in case of a major incident to a number of fans. Numbers are a key in this - the club would not be in the position to eject a group 500-1000 people for standing, they probably would have to let you be although they'd grumble about it and make it difficult to do so. I imagine they also see this as another group who wishes to stand, that if caught on in other areas, would provide them with real headaches which is why the guys that are already standing in other areas and have been doing so for a long time don't appear to be being hassled as much. It's a difficult one, but in all fairness I think the club is essentially trying to protect itself and although it feels like they are being killjoy's and not listening to the fans they don't have much margin to move on this unless the law is changed. This is where the focus needs to be from all fans who want to stand, in addition to lobbling their clubs for safe standing initiatives to be brought in.

Manchester United fans for fought for years over this in the 90s . . . and won. They ended up with a singing section for fans standing up in the upper tier of the Stretford End. Liverpool fans are allowed to stand all game on the Kop for the big games. And regardless of the game they have a section of 500 fans at the back of the Kop who stand up for 90 minutes every home game. There's several otehr clubs as well, who have sections of fans who are allowed to stand up. It's a question of how strictly the club want to enforce the law, but common sense needs to apply. No stand is going to be closed down because a few lads are stoof up at the back of a stand.
potter3 Posted 1 September 2010 Posted 1 September 2010 Didn't the SAG (or whoever) try to close one of Man Utd's stands, but Man U took them to court and they dropped it. Or something similar.

The liberal Democrats had an entire manifesto which they pretty much scrapped to jump into bed with the tories. Ask the people who feel like mugs for voting for them if they're happy that all the key points were written down. I disagree that the petition carries no weight - over 400 people have signed to 'show their support for Leicester City's Fosse Boys' - a general statement of approval for a group whos ideology is understood by all who have signed. This is a petition, not a 'prove you know what the FBs are about' exam
