BBC Radio Leicester - squad to be trimmed?

How are nine first-team midfielders going to go into three or four spaces?

The Foxes have added Abe, Moussa and Moreno to the already proven Gallagher, Oakley, King, Dyer, N'Guessan and Wellens so what, or more importantly, who, is going to give?

Paulo Sousa told me on Saturday that a number of 'first-team players' have handed in transfer requests so when the loan window opens in six days, I expect the exit door to revolve as some head to pastures new.

First-team football should be, and usually is, the number one priority for a professional so you can't begrudge them departing in a bid to live their dream to play football for a living and not warm a bench. But I don't envy those in the middle of the park trying to impress Mr Sousa who was one of the best midfielders of his generation.

The Foxes missed out on defenders Ashley Williams from Swansea and Hull's Kamil Zayatte on transfer deadline day so Sousa clearly wants to add some beef at the back so expect movement in the next week to add some temporary fixtures at The Walkers Stadium, some may become permanent.

But where does that leave Morrison, Tunchev, Hobbs and Parkes? It's good competition for places but keeping everyone happy is a real management skill which even the most experienced struggle with.

And then there's Martyn 'Waggy' Waghorn. That signing alone has galvanised fans and put recent poor form to the back of the mind - if only for a day or two. A great acquisition and a lovely, lovely lad. I had the pleasure of spending time with Martyn at a golf day last season. He was so polite, blending in with us mere mortals and chatting about anything and everything. Asking to join our group, some advice on club selection (he asked the wrong person when chatting with me I have to be honest) and taking a keen interest in everyone else's lives. Honestly, for a 20-year-old, such a nice chap and I have no doubt he won't get above his station.

So a good day's business with DJ Campbell getting his way and leaving the club while those joining are of top quality, well done to those in charge at The Walkers Stadium but maybe some new loan faces to be pictured alongside consortium chairman (but not club chairman) Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn........

So, place your bets, who will leave in the loan window?????

I for one don't think our squad needs trimming. It needs a Centre Back adding unless Vitor and Tunchev are both nearing full fitness. I'm not holding my breath there.

Yeah it doesn't NEED trimming, but it seems like it will happen anyway due to unhappiness in some players.

So we have 9 midfielders Abe, Moussa, Moreno, Gallagher, Oakley, King, Dyer, N'Guessan and Wellens I really don't see the problem especially if the intention is to play 5 in there at certain times. You can't just lump them all together and say we've too many as they perform a variety of midfield and striker options and many have more than one of those that they can perform.

The transfer listed players are just being fannies. They'll have seen Waggy striding into training this morning, smashing in goals left, right and centre, all from Abe's whipped set peices, and thought 'what were we thinking trying to leave?! Promotion here we come!'. ...and all will be fine

Well it's not "obviously not lost in translation" is it. Stringer is confirming what he was told in the interview on saturday, but if Sousa told him the wrong thing because he misunderstood, then Stringer is only confirming the wrong information.

Not heard the Stringer interview. I was referring to the Merc article a few days ago which could easily be taken to mean different things, particularly the way they have phrased it:

"Yes, we have some of them (who have asked to go) but not too many," said Sousa.

"It means we have some good players and other clubs are interested in them. Depending on offers and the minds of the players, we will make decisions but we will keep it in-house.

Players get unsettled when their agents start to tell them about other possibilities."

I appreciate this could very well be the same interview however Stringer's comment "a number of 'first-team players' have handed in transfer requests" is a lot more concrete

N'Guessen - I like DNG but he is by far the most frustrating player i've ever watched for Leicester. So quick and so much skill but never leaves a mark on a game. A loan at a lower level could be good for him.

I am well aware that Richie Wellens didnt start his career at Leicester, what i'm saying is that his career at Leicester started well.

This. They are all referencing each other, with the reported position and the actual words spoken by Sousa getting further and further apart each time.

I'd be surprised if many of our midfield players get picked up by other clubs on loan given that for the first time ever there will be premiership clubs forced into loaning out some players, on top of those youngsters that they might choose to loan out for experience. Anyone seen the list of Arsenal's under 21 players? They could probably supply all Championship and League 1 clubs with a couple of players each just by themselves.

Swap Wellens for Gally, who hasn't shown much at all imo, and although undoubtedly has talent goes missing in games more than not, i was expecting so much more. Wellens on the other hand might not have set the world on fire but we knew what he was about before he signed, a hard working gritty midfield who gets stuck in and can open up the best of back lines with a killer pass, problem with him he's a confidence player. Give him time and i think he'll really shine under Sousa's style. ( i hope he's not one of the players that are unhappy, but with the rumour leeds are interested, it could be true as Grayson and Wellens i think played together at Blackpool and know each other well).
