Mack Posted 11 October 2010 Posted 11 October 2010 If I remember rightly by that point Wimbledon fans were boycotting games, they weren't prepared to further line the pockets of the then owners who wanted to take their club away by moving it elsewhere or were understandably disillusioned with what had been allowed to happen even prior to that. I also understand Sam Hamman pocketed £5M from the sale of Plough Lane so there are plenty of other guilty figures if Merton Council were. To imply there was no alternative is wrong, owners with conscience would have acted differently, to get 3,500 in a level 8 league doesn't to me suggest a lack of potential even if they had previously been punching above their weight at the top level. Owners should have been looking at sites around the local area for a new ground (closer than 50 miles away) rather than how to make money selling football supporters down the river. Bottom line. When it all went tits up 700 people showed up to protest. Where were all the thousands of boycotting fans then? It was a tiny club with a non league hole of a ground with terraces made of out wood and soil. I agree hamman was a crook but to be fair nothing was built on plough lane for donkeys after they stopped playing there. Their meteoric rise got them some fair-weather fans who did one to Fulham and Chelsea when thinks got tough. Winkelman did look around the area, but they were not wanted and the club were nomadic and heading for extinction. Given the circumstances I dont blame him for moving it. Dont forget, AFC play at Kingstonian, a non league ground a good few miles from the old Plough Lane. I bet a bundle of the people who watch them are also Chelsea fans priced out of Stamford Bridge or who go when Chelsea are away from home.

He'd tried to do the same thing with QPR and Luton beforehand, but thankfully their boards had enought spine to tell him to fuck off.
Alexikokopops Posted 13 October 2010 Posted 13 October 2010 There's a change I might be moving to Wimbledon soon. I'll be sure to pop down to a match (even though there not actually in Wimbledon at the moment). Edit: Just realised that I'm actually just as far from their ground where I live now (in Twickenham) as I would be if I lived in Wimbledon. Maybe I'll go sooner rather than later.
Edmund Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 I hadn't realised that their doing so well. I really hope they get promoted back into the league.
Bert Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 I can pick eleven teams that wouldn't look out of place in the 92.
CosbehFox Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Crawley will romp home. I was advised by someone that Wrexham are a cracking bet for promotion via the Playoffs. Similarly Altrincham to stay up and Kettering to be relegated. Some brilliant awaydays amongst that league.

Turns out I moved to the other side of the city. I'll make it one day
Ricey Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 Just beaten Fleetwood 8-1 on agg to qualify for the Play-Off Final. Final is 21st May at Eastlands. I'm playing at Kingsmeadow tomorrow against their coaching and backroom staff, I'm hoping they'll be hungover
