There is a suggestion that Leicester and Stoke are both in the hunt to try and sign this fella from Swansea!

Name: Izzy Iriekpen

Nationality: Nigerian

Date of Birth: 14/05/1982

Height: 6' 1" (185cm)

Weight: 12st 2lbs (77.18kg)

Previous Clubs: Cambridge, Leyton Orient, West Ham

Position: Defender

Izzy signed for Swansea from West Ham at the start of last season. He is a pacy defender who, whilst at West Ham, was capped by England at youth level and was captain of a successful Hammers' youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1999 which included team-mate Leon Britton, and was also a non-playing substitute for West Ham at Old Trafford as a 16-year old.

He's only 23, I reckon he could be worth a dabble! Thoughts?

CL has said he's trying to sign 2 pacy centre-backs...

When's he said that? That's good news, I imagine one of them will be Kenton if possible.

That Iriekpen was classed as an extremely hot prospect and i'm surprised he never made it at West Ham, but it was inevitable some of their youngsters wouldn't. I've not seen him play for about 5 years since I watched him in a reserve match down at Filbert Street and he looked very quick and composed.

He's said it quite a few times, in that Merc interview I think, and on the phone-in. He said 2 pacy centre-backs, someone up-front and some utility players (if I remember correctly).

Edit to add: And 2 goalkeepers

WHY ARE WE ALWAYS INTERESTED IN DEFENDERS!

A STRIKER IS WHAT WE NEED! A STRIKER!!!!

Because we dont have many defenders, especially centre backs...

I think the age old adage is, 'build from the back' and being as apart from McCarthy and Dublin at a pinch we dont really have any quality centre halves (and Levein has already stated Stearman's not ready to play there yet).

Calm down dear, CL is looking for a striker as well.

if he is looking at centre backs, does it mean he is not looking at strikers? he could easily be looking at several on the go...

Our defencesive record was about the fifth best in the fizzy, our goal scoring was about the fifth worst in the fizzy, thats why we need goal scorers.

It's all connected though. If we have slow defenders we have to sit back more, if they can get back quickly we can push further up the pitch.

That's because he's got another year on it.

Didn't CL as much as say that Heath (and Wright) need to play in a lower league to guarantee first team fottball, or something like that? I think this is why I thought he wasn't with us anymore...

He said Heath was too slow and Wright needed to start in League One or below, but they've both still got a year on their contracts with us so that depends on someone coming in for them.

Although it doesn't help when we bring back every single player for corners or freekicks :ermm:

IZZY'S LOOKING TO STAY

Izzy Iriekpen is hoping to have his new Swansea City contract sorted out shortly. The former West Ham United defender's current deal runs out next month and the 23-year-old is keen to extend his stay with the Swans.

"I definitely want to stay," said Iriekpen, who is on holiday in Marbella.

"I'm not sure what is happening with my contract at the moment as the chairman (Huw Jenkins) is on holiday.

"I spoke to my agent a couple of weeks ago and, hopefully, we can get it sorted out shortly."

Iriekpen has been linked to unnamed Coca-Cola Championship clubs as rumours fly around the footballing world about possible transfers.

Despite the rumours, Iriekpen insisted that he was going nowhere.

The defender, who has forged a useful partnership at the heart of Kenny Jackett's back four with Garry Monk, wants to play a part in the beginning of the club's new era in League One and at the new stadium at Morfa.

"I'm not interested in going anywhere else," he said.

"Hopefully, most of the team that won promotion will stay. I want to stay and, hopefully, we can win promotion again."
