Guest shearfox Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 what i dont understand is our owners are making sure the message gets out we have money why not keep that on the low we get players for cheaper there going on like were man city I couldn't agree more add the fact we have Sven has manager and us announcing major sponsorship deals it looks like clubs will demand a higher fee for their players.
Wig_Wam_Bam Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Always makes me smile when fans say their team would be better off not getting promoted. So you don't think we as a club are better off grabbing the £90 million in money for Being promoted Via the playoffs to the premier league even for one season, if so you clearly have no idea! For a start we would be able to build a better team by attracting better payers and also gain larger advertisment and sponsership, thus making us even more money!
Edmund Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Tbf to the owners, they were just innocently responding to a question and trying to give as positive response as possible to outline their potential. Coupled with the fact that Sven is desperate for some serious backing after the Notts County debacle, they probably felt they had to say some publicly as well as just in private. Yeah I agree with that, especially as they were being asked whilst in Thailand. They were there on a pr exercise and it would only be natural for them to try and raise the profile of Leicester City as that's their main outline being linked with King Power. Thailand has a completely different culture than over here and wealthy citizens have to keep up their image. The only problem is it's perceived differently over here and blown out of proportion. You only have to look at the latest "Sven will get whatever he asks for in the transfer market story", which will undoubtedly raise the price of any potential player we go in for.
lcfc_jme Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 What a completely moronic statement to make. We're not exactly brimming with confidence or riding high on a wave of enthusiasm following an easy promotion anymore. Deary me this guy's delusional.
MC Prussian Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 To be fair, I don't think he really meant it that way. They can be as rich as they want to, but especially Vichai Raksriaksorn does not strike me as overly fluent in English. Some people read waaaay too much into this.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 I can't take Rakman senior seriously, his face is hilarious when he smiles.
orangecity23 Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 There's a big difference in meaning between: Q: What's your aim for this season? A: We're Aiming for promotion and Q: Would you like to get promoted this season? A: Yes Either of these could have happened, with the media reporting it exactly the same way no matter which of the two actually happened. Throw Vichai's dodgy English into the mix, and you've got a recipe for muddled understanding. I'm going to take this news with a sizeable pinch of salt.

The Doctor Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Much Ado About Nothing? Freddy adu isn't all that much and it's a bit harsh to call the rest of the players nothing. edit: yes i know that was a terrible and completely irrelevant attempt at a joke before anyone mentions it.
lcfc_jme Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 What a completely moronic answer Like I actually give two shits? It's bad enough dealing with the eternal disappointment that being a Leicester fan seems to bring, but to continuously listen to people harp on about their promotion plans becomes annoying at best after a while. Milan with his fvcking 3 year plan (came off well, that did), then Sousa talking about getting us there (yeah, superb job Paulo, well done) and now the Thais. It'd be better for all involved if they just kept it buttoned up and stumped up the cash to mount a serious promotion charge behind the scenes without heaping unnecessary pressure on the players and raising expectations of mongtacular idiots who seriously believe we'll now have a chance of going up this season because the owner has said it in an interview. (not saying this applies to you specifically but there will be many it does apply to)
scott_gunnell Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 To be fair, Sven will have to show good results this season and take Leicester up the table at least or he is out. Im a big big Sven fan but he did take this job knowing that the pressure is on him for fast results. I dont think he will be sacked for not getting promoted this season but next season will be a must by the sounds of it. but as i say, Sven takes the job on with the target set. Sven had the England job 5 and a half years. Im sure the Leicester fans will agree that the pressure here is not as high. Maybe not even close.
