His great haul of China will put him in the same pay bracket as Premier League top earner Yaya Toure – not bad for a 35-year-old who had been ready to hang up his boots. The move for Butt, who quit Newcastle at the end of last season, is being funded by wealthy South China chairman Steven Lo, who wants the veteran midfielder to play for his title winners for four months from February. Butt had planned to move into coaching but the astronomical pay deal will put that idea on hold. Butt, capped 39 times by England, won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League with Manchester United during a glittering career. South China have won the Hong Kong First Division title in each of the last four years.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Ridiculous amount of money for one of the most over rated players in Premier League history. The bloke funding this must have some severe wedge and be a complete fucking fruitcake.
StanSP Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Bizarre. He wasn't great when he was younger, and he's no better these days! 200k?!

Their obsessed with the whole Man Utd thing over there, wouldn't even surprise me if the guy made his money back through merchandising but I doubt it.
broughtonblue Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Mmm retirement and coaching or £200k a week. Dillema!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Wouldn't mind that as a retirment package
Jon the Hat Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Good luck to the bloke, though it does sound like someone has got his sums wrong. Or is at least optimistic. It's not like they are offering him a 3 year deal...

It's not like they are offering him a 3 year deal... I'm guessing the figure is right but as you've pointed out it's only a 4 month deal. Still, happy days for Nicky Butt.
Father Ted Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 And people are calling Audley Harrison, 'Fraudley' Harrison!
