North-LondonFox Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 DJ had an early disagreement with the club about treatment of an injury. Thereafter it never seemed like his heart was in playing for us. Yes, a fit, committed DJ was good enough. But no, he wasn't ever going to show it here. I sometimes wonder if it was partly to do with personality. And the same with Gradel. We had such a boring approach to our football and tended to discount flair players and fill our team with boring footballers. Soussa saw things differently but was always a stepping stone for the arrival of Sven who really does seem to know how football should be played and, perhaps more important, can cope with the many and varied characters he'll need to play it. I entirely understand what you're saying there - it just gets me down a bit when our club can't get the most out of quality attacking players. There are certain players I like to watch and they are usually those who can beat defenders and change games. They are often (almost by definition) inconsistent, but sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth at our level or you just settle for players that are reliable but mediocre. For me the game is still about entertainment and I guess i'll always be that way.
Bugg Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Sorry but DJ has played well for Blackpool and all their fans would back that up. He was central to their final push at the end of last season and has been central to their succes this season. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up when you have got it wrong. It just seemed so obvious to me that the guy could play - f we'd have got behind him we could have profited, but unfortunately the trend (as with a lot on here) often seems to be to see the worst in people. To suggest that Delfoneso is "gash" is a prime example - sorry but i'll stick with Martin ON's opinion rather than a couple of negative half wits on here! So because I don't have the same opinion as you makes me a half wit? Delfounso isn't as good as people are making out, and just because MON rates him doesn't mean that it is gospel, I'm sure he'll be good when he's older but at the moment he is poor.
Finnegan Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Campbell's 3 goals in 13 games as the central striker in a team hell-bent on all-out attack is hardly proof that he's a class act. Luke Varney's got 5 goals from the wing in that time, and he was pretty average in the Championship. Spot on. And have you actually been watching MOTD? Some of his misses have been absolutely shocking.
North-LondonFox Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Spot on. And have you actually been watching MOTD? Some of his misses have been absolutely shocking. Its probably time to wrap this one up - but the fact the guy is a mainstay in a side doing well in the Premiership suggests that he had the ability to do well for us - I don't think that's too controversial a point. The link with Delfoneso is that the guy clearly has talent and all the attributes to succeed - at Championship level at least - writing the guy off on the basis of a couple of substitute appearances as a teenager seems to be a bit daft. Right - rant over and apologies if i've been a bit overly entusiastic in expressing my opinions on this - I just get a bit frustrated with the routinely neagtive element amongst City fans which seems to result in us not seeing the best of players that clearly have tallent.

Fickle Leicester fans would rather pick out spelling mistakes than resign to the fact DJ is doing well at Blackpool!
Finnegan Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 I am not usually negative about our players, even Steve Howard, who represents everything I hate about British football, I generally accept the merits of. I have just never, ever rated DJ. Even prior to coming here. He gets by on a reputation for flair and **** all else.

DJ is a slimy piece of crap as a player. He dives and cheats. He simply lives on his raw pace - like many modern footballers now who are no longer allowed to showcase their skills, i.e. your George Best's but now you just get the fastest footballers who have no footballing ability whatsoever.
North-LondonFox Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Fickle Leicester fans would rather pick out spelling mistakes than resign to the fact DJ is doing well at Blackpool! Fair enough! If i'm going to get on my high horse sound off I should at least get my spelling right!
Thracian Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Spot on. And have you actually been watching MOTD? Some of his misses have been absolutely shocking. Fryatt missed stacks of sitters too yet was a hero to some on here. Seems to me that DJ still eludes defenders and makes himself plenty of chances even in a modest side playing in the Premiership.Which means, at the very least, he's damned difficult to mark. And, for anyone having doubts about his ability at our level I'd say 23 goals in 46 matches while out on loan at Blackpool and Derby was pretty emphatic. We just didn't get the best out of him, any more than we got the most out of Gradel because our managers were so blinkered and our football so predictably functional.
Haydos Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 We just didn't get the best out of him, any more than we got the most out of Gradel because our managers were so blinkered and our football so predictably functional. Get. Over. Fooking. Gradel. Nobody cares any more. He's doing above average at a side we've already beaten twice this season. He's not setting the league on fire any stretch of the imagination. There's a slight chance we should have stuck with him last year after his good season in League 1 but we didn't and very nearly won promotion without him We used Kingy and he's come on like a charm but there's a point where you can't afford to keep throwing youth at a promotion-chasing team that already contained Hobbs, Morrison, King, Waghorn, N'Guessan, etc. And it wasn't that we didn't get the best out of Campbell. His attitude stunk, he thought he was better than us and we were never going to build a team around him. What would you have rather we did to 'get the best out of him'?
