Well why moan on here then?

People critisize the atmosphere at places like the Walkers, then they moan about the songs being sung. It doesn't make sense.

Because us simpletons are breaking the 10 commandments of the ancient Fosse Boys religion

Posted

The reason they moan about songs being sung are because some of them are absolutely cringeworthy and shit as fvck.

"Who are ya" - is that seriously, seriously the best we can come out with to "intimidate" their fans?

I'd rather noise than silence (a lot of today), obviously, but some of our "songs" like "who are ya" are utter shite, small-time as fvck and have no wit/humour in them at all, I'm all for singing decent songs at them but not unimaginative, generic tosh like that.

I respect what the Fosse Boys try to do but a lot of the time they comment as if they are above the rest of us, as if we are just a bunch of morons. I enjoy most chants, some not so much. But just because I don't like them doesn't mean I am a better fan than the people chanting the stuff I don't like.

The most important thing is to make noise IMO. If it's silent I'm not having much fun, and the players don't feel as if we are behind them. I don't think they are pissed off that we sing left side, right side - I hardly think they think it divides the fans. In fact that chant is quite the opposite, it's a fun chant where the supporters are just having a laugh. Personally I have nothing against that chant, I really don't think the team feels we are not supporting them when we sing it.

Sometimes it's good to have a sense of humour at the football.

We do not feel like we are above the rest of the support at all, at least I don't and genuinely did not intend to come across like that at all. The left side, right side is just something I don't like. I think it looks completely ridiculous singing against your own fans and capping it all off with a chorus of the famous "who are ya." I agree about having a sense of humour at the football and i'm not at all this formal on the terraces and have some of the best laughs when supporting my team home and away.

Because it sparks discussion and generally, educated responses, I enjoy talking about atmospheres and songs I guess.

I can see another Fosse Boys vs Non-Fosse Boys argument breaking out again. :giggle:

I genuinely don't see it like that, i'd still be having this discussion even if I wasn't part of the Fosse Boys.

So you want traditional songs but not 'who are ya?' (a song traditionally sung at the football for many years)

blimey these commandments are specific

I hate the ring of fire one myself, I find it boring and no one sings it.

What songs do sing that are so witty then?

You use the word intimidate. We're not the Baby Squad.

We sing them to make noise, and generally for abit of a laugh.

My opinion on the singing etc.

Personally I don't have a problem with the banter between the different sets of fans, be it "left side, right side" or "who are ya" it just helps to generate the atmosphere(although to be fair, I don't sing the Yuki song as it's incorrect). As cringey as it may sound, it's a football match and it's all about trying to outsing the opposition to try and spur your team on. As much as what I appreciate the Fosse Boys are trying to do, by slagging people off who don't follow the exact code that you do is just going to piss them off, which is why you get a load of people in L/K who get pissed off at you (not me personally) because of your sometimes "holier than thou" approach.

Rant over.

Generally, none that would be classed as wiity but 90% of the chants are ones which are traditional Leicester songs which the majority know, or traditional Leicester songs that the older lads who usually stand with us at home games have taught us.

i genuinely think it is brilliant to see the "Fosse Boys" doing their bit at games and trying to get the songs going etc so carry on boys - brilliant  However in a slight footnote to the above i do feel as an educated but yet very down to earth CITY fan since 1979-80 season that the "To the Left Side to the Right Side" songs that are sung mainly away from home are very funny and a good laugh to join in with (Walsall away and Huddersfield away from 2 seasons ago spring to mind), i do not feel they insult anyone and whilst they may not be the best songs we sing at least it generates atmosphere. I dont get to see CITY as much away these days as i do shift work which encompasses alot of Saturday work etc etc, however i do still get to a handful of home games still (have a flexi 10 membership this year). The away trips i miss more than anything though as they are in my mind the real true fans who travel away and sing their hearts out. In essence what i am saying is best of luck "Fosse Boys" but try not to be too critical of fans like me who just enjoy the banter the odd time i get to go these days and certainly mean no offence to anyone whatever im singing. Come on CITY :scarf:

It's not against your own fans, it's a laugh. Haven't you cottoned on to the fact that it's mostly sung when we are winning (meaning everyone is in a positive mood and having a good time?)

If you hate the 'who are ya' chant do you also hate the 'blue army' chant?

I've been on the fosse boys forum and most of it consists of fosse boys members complaining about how thick the rest of us are and how 'retareded' most of the chants are

I don't feel that i've slagged anyone off, I hope i haven't at least. Everyone can support there team how they like, I think no less of anyone cause they don't have the same mindset as me, each to there own and all that.

I can't comment on our away end today as I wasn't there but generally speaking our away support has been better this season than it was last.

Palace, Barnsley and Bristol City stand out as particularly good away followings. We've had some stinkers though, Swansea and Millwall were pretty poor on the whole so it is a bit patchy. I'm not sure I buy this argument about any noise being better than no noise either, we as a club have some cracking chants in our locker that sound fantastic when boomed out but often end up with Left Side/Right Side that almost always fizzles out after a couple of bursts. I'd much rather be part of a crowd that sings some of our better songs than the generic stuff that often gets sung, it's just unoriginal and boring. At least the 1-0 down who gives a **** has died a death though.

This guys hit the nail on the head.

It's abit of fun.

Just to reiterate, I'm certainly not arguing. Im discussing the fact that why should some of our chants be ridiculed, by certain members of the support. We're trying to get atmosphere going, and having FUN whilst it.

We have a different sense of humour, I don't knock you for it, but that's the way it is. I've got no real opinion of the 'Blue Army' chant, wouldn't necessarily give it my whole as a song, but it's better than some.

hmmm, you say that but most of the chants you mention that you sing I've never heard of. I'll admit that that's probably because I am too young to remember the songs at Filbert Street but I'm sure there are plenty of people around the ground who have never sung them before either. Then when people attempt to sing them and get them wrong the Fosse boys say we are a bunch of thickos. Not saying you specifically but some members.

So you have a go at us for singing songs we know and that we have sung for years, but then when we attempt one that hasn't been sung in a while (such as the one man went to burn the forest song for example) you have a go at us for being halfwits.

Maybe that's why people stick to the 'generic' songs which they know.

Fair enough about the wanting to sing some of the non-generic songs, I prefer those personally, it's just it seems those who sing the generic songs are classed as inferior to others really. I'm not trying to start a flame war about it, just putting my input in.

I'm 17 and visited Filbert Street only in single digit figures unfortunately. I agree, that that may be the problem, but hopefully if they keep getting sung regularly they will cotton on and be sung by the majority (that's the plan at least). And unfortunately, you are correct, there are one or two who have a go at there own fans for being 'thick', 'quiet' or whatever, but I can assure you, when it happens they are told to shut it virtually straight away, we are not here to belittle, argue or offend any of our fellow supporters, merely to try and have a return to the atmosphere which used to be experienced in the old Kop.

They aren't inferior by any stretch, sing what the fvck you like at the footy as long as it's not racist or whatever.

Fair comments.

I personally thought it was brilliant when some of our fans started singing One Man Went To Burn, even if it wasn't technically correct. The Fosse Boys are a bunch of fans trying to help in improving the atmosphere, not some chant police. If it's an unfamiliar song, which it will be to most younger than me seeing as it hasn't been sung on a wide scale for ages, then people are going to get it wrong. Most in the Fosse Boys are fairly understanding of that and happy that people are singing something that's straight off the Filbert Street terraces. Just because we're familiar with it thanks to the input of some of the older Kopites within the group doesn't mean everyone will be.

I wouldn't take too much notice of what's said on the FB forum, we're far more idealistic on there than anything else and if anything it's more like the online equivalent of sitting round a pub table and exchanging banter. As a group, we'd be delighted if the One Man Went To Burn song was re-introduced to the consciousness of City fans, it's one of our songs and sounds great with a good few voices behind it. Certainly a lot better than the Who The **** Are Coventry song that doesn't make any sense.

I'm with you mate, I'm desperate for the old style atmosphere to come back. Frankly I will participate in any chant for the fun of it, and some of the generic ones do get a bit boring, unfortunately though I sit in K block and like I said I don't know a lot of the chants the fosse boys sing, so it's kind of a 'you get what you're given' situation.

Maybe the Fosse Boys feel they are superior because of the fancy stickers and scarves?

Oi, leave the stickers and scarves out of it, I designed them!

I can understand that, making the best of what you've got I can get. Also, if we're singing a song and you don't know the lyrics, just ask, it's how we learnt a fair few of the ones we sing now.

The Fosse Boys prefer to sing traditional LEICESTER songs, not traditional English football songs.
