AmyLGK Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Just a quick comment/question really - has anyone heard/seen this interview? He said that Chelsea train harder than Leicester. Now - I have no concept of football training having never played football in my life or watched a training session. So I was wondering why would their training be harder? I would have thought that all clubs would want to train as hard as possible (without injuries and tiring out the players of course) to get the best from their team. I know that the harder I train the faster I run in races for example. What are peoples thoughts on this, if any?
Jakemoore Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Maybe he meant exactly what he said, maybe he thinks Chelsea do train harder, I suppose every coach has his own training technique, maybe Svens is more on ball work and Ancelotti concentrates on fitness. Who knows really?!

Edmund Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Yeh I guess it's not just about fitness. Are you Paulo Sousa in disguise?
ajthefox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I would assume he means fitness, can't imagine using the word harder when referring to ball skills and such in training. It's just how different teams work though. As we saw with Sousa fitness wasn't primary and we did struggle, but too much fitness and not enough tactics/ball skills could be detrimental too.

Sven talked about the amount of games in PL and in this league it's more. It's the same here before January. Thin troop and if a few is injuried it makes it very hard to achieve any goals at all. Now we have better back up but if we got a few injuries we're back to bad away games. So I think sven takes it a bit easy til he has a larger squad and don't have to worry about injuries.

An excellent point. Really glad I joined this forum. I used to read and get annoyed with the 'discussion' on the Mercury's Blue Army site. This site is much more fan focused and educated about the game.

Spudulike Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 (For anyone that went) How did our new left-back play last night ?? Haven't heard much said.
BedsFox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Looked to be short of match sharpness First half particularly he struggled, particularly trying to play a bit too much in the wrong areas of the field, and a few misplaced clearances Second half was steadier Not much evidence of the attacking prowess he is said to have, bar one first half cross and one second half run. Should be quick, looking at the way he moves, but the pitch was not helpful for flowing football Give it time for him to get up to the pace of it, match fit and used to the style of play.

Thanks, Beds. Just read the players ratings which confirmed this. Not sure if we can give him time given that every game will be massive from here on in. WYS
ta-fc Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 I think you need to put into context his position in both squads... For Chelsea he'd be a fringe player only training with the first 18 occasionally at Leicester he's considered a first team player. The point I'm trying to make is that the first team would focus on ball work, opposition tactics and set piece stuff whereas fringe players are likely to be in a different group and work harder on fitness keeping them match ready as they are usually involved in less matches.
Kent Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 I watched the interview earlier. It wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea's physical training is intense, their athletisism is one of their biggest strong points. SGE is a genius in other areas.
phillthefox Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 well considering he says chelsea train harder he looked no fitter than others out there, and for me likes to get forward a little too much and was caught out a few times, which better teams would have punished us for, but the same as ben mee they will both fit in eventually and with this week training together should be ok against barnsley
nickelbyfox Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 On the OS player, had another interview and was asked again about being the next ashley cole, looked tired of the question! Think he will punch the next guy who asks him that. BTW who does these interviews other than Stringer, and do they have free range of questions? I mean they ask him about game, pitch, ashley cole and rubbish nothing really interesting! Sven factor, who he likes on the team, playing with Naughton, physicality of the championship etc. would be far more interesting.
