If the crowd average corresponded with the league position, ...

just wondering, if a league position was measured by the average home attendance, where would we stand? i'm pretty sure that we would be in the premier league on most years. and even if an average was taken over a five year period (including a season in league one) we would be in the top division. if my thoughts are confirmed then congratulations are in order to all of us on here who attend matches whenever possible

unfortunately a lot of people go to 'gay pride' park, but i was thinking more of the wigans of this world who are in the prem but who's home support is shite

are you talking about every team put into an order or just the championship? because the championship last season on average attendance would be thus:

Newcastle - 43,388

Derby - 29,207

Sheffield United - 25,120

Leicester - 23,943

Nottingham Forest - 23,831

Sheffield Wednesday - 23,179

West Brom - 22,199

Ipswich - 20,841

Cardiff - 20,717

Middlesbrough - 19,948

QPR - 17,408

Coventry - 17,305

Swansea - 15,407

Crystal Palace - 14,771

Bristol City - 14,601

yeah, top two divisions. as you say we averaged 24k last year, i think that would take us into the prem on attendence

at this point, we'd actually be 2nd in the championship as we;'d be number 22 in the country ! Only 3 premier league teams with lower averages than us this season. Saying that in the premier league i think we'd be closer to 30k on average easily so probably not too far off the top 10.

would you not be better doing it on average capacity?

and work out the percentage of the ground thats full? because fair enough we have bigger grounds that scu.nthorpe but they might sell out most weeks if that makes sense?

Posted

Cardiff's is 23,188, ours is 23,165.

im sure our average attendance will end up bigger than Cardiff's come the end of the season though - presuming we keep playing well etc

derby give alot of there tickets away though dont they.. any team could fill the stadium if your giving it away..

Apparently so. I read that their overall gate receipts are at the lower end of the league which is why they do not have the money to really compete with the teams at the top end of the division. This is certainly the excuse for lack of investment that their American owners came up with.

Middlesbrough's attendance is shocking, especially since they haven't been down here that long, never realised just how bad cov's is either.

Ours could be better in terms of a percentage of the stadium but those two really are shite.

Edit: Anyone know home park's capacity? Could've sworn it was like 18,000? That's fookin terrible if so, it'd only be like 55% or something.

Bugger! Missed out on prem by a 1000, but considering that includes a season in the 3rd tier I think it's still pretty impressive. Well done for your research, and well done to all who go and give us such fantastic support!
