broughtonblue Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 just wondering, if a league position was measured by the average home attendance, where would we stand? i'm pretty sure that we would be in the premier league on most years. and even if an average was taken over a five year period (including a season in league one) we would be in the top division. if my thoughts are confirmed then congratulations are in order to all of us on here who attend matches whenever possible

broughtonblue Posted 14 February 2011 Author Posted 14 February 2011 Thankfully it's not like that, because Derby shit on us every week unfortunately a lot of people go to 'gay pride' park, but i was thinking more of the wigans of this world who are in the prem but who's home support is shite
irDeano Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 are you talking about every team put into an order or just the championship? because the championship last season on average attendance would be thus: Newcastle - 43,388 Derby - 29,207 Sheffield United - 25,120 Leicester - 23,943 Nottingham Forest - 23,831 Sheffield Wednesday - 23,179 West Brom - 22,199 Ipswich - 20,841 Cardiff - 20,717 Middlesbrough - 19,948 QPR - 17,408 Coventry - 17,305 Swansea - 15,407 Crystal Palace - 14,771 Bristol City - 14,601 Watford - 14,345 QPR - 13,349 Barnsley - 12,964 Preston - 12,935 Doncaster - 10,992 Plymouth - 10,316 Peterborough - 8,913 Blackpool - 8,611 S****horpe - 6,464

topharry123 Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 at this point, we'd actually be 2nd in the championship as we;'d be number 22 in the country ! Only 3 premier league teams with lower averages than us this season. Saying that in the premier league i think we'd be closer to 30k on average easily so probably not too far off the top 10.
FuriousFox46 Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 unfortunately a lot of people go to 'gay pride' park, but i was thinking more of the wigans of this world who are in the prem but who's home support is shite Don't ever make that joke again.
broughtonblue Posted 14 February 2011 Author Posted 14 February 2011 Don't ever make that joke again. sorry, you sound furious
Corky Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 According to the League Paper, we'd be 5th, behind Leeds, Derby, Norwich and Cardiff.
Soar Fox Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 Didn't think cardiff had a higher average attendance than us. There stadium always looks half full.
m00nie Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 derby give alot of there tickets away though dont they.. any team could fill the stadium if your giving it away..
JoeyB Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 would you not be better doing it on average capacity? and work out the percentage of the ground thats full? because fair enough we have bigger grounds that scu.nthorpe but they might sell out most weeks if that makes sense?
Fox1651 Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 Cardiff's is 23,188, ours is 23,165. im sure our average attendance will end up bigger than Cardiff's come the end of the season though - presuming we keep playing well etc
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 derby give alot of there tickets away though dont they.. any team could fill the stadium if your giving it away.. Apparently so. I read that their overall gate receipts are at the lower end of the league which is why they do not have the money to really compete with the teams at the top end of the division. This is certainly the excuse for lack of investment that their American owners came up with.

Ours could be better in terms of a percentage of the stadium but those two really are shite. Edit: Anyone know home park's capacity? Could've sworn it was like 18,000? That's fookin terrible if so, it'd only be like 55% or something.
irDeano Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 yeah, top two divisions. as you say we averaged 24k last year, i think that would take us into the prem on attendence Calculated the average attendance over the last 3 seasons of all the teams in the football league at this moment in time and this is what the leagues would look like: Premiership: Manchester United - 75,288 Arsenal - 60,008 Newcastle - 47,642 Manchester City - 43,524 Liverpool - 43,302 Chelsea - 41,493 Sunderland - 41,036 Aston Villa - 39,412 Everton - 36,362 Tottenham - 35,898 West Ham - 34,127 Derby - 30,281 Sheffield United - 25,591 Wolves - 25,339 Leeds - 25,059 Middlesbrough - 24,807 Norwich - 24,579 Blackburn - 24,159 Fulham - 24,009 Stoke - 23,667 Championship: Birmingham - 23,502 West Brom - 23,443 Leicester - 22,568 Hull - 22,402 Sheffield Wednesday - 22,046 Nottingham Forest - 22,028 Bolton - 21,718 Ipswich - 21,245 Charlton - 20,553 Reading - 20,309 Southampton - 20,028 Portsmouth - 19,285 Wigan - 18,307 Coventry - 17,945 Cardiff - 17,701 Bristol City - 15,897 Burnley - 15,367 Watford - 15,359 Crystal Palace - 15,340 Swansea - 14,704 QPR - 13,414 Preston - 13,002 Bradford - 12,607 Barnsley - 12,526 League One: Huddersfield - 12,211 Plymouth - 11,581 Doncaster - 10,311 MK Dons - 10,099 Millwall - 9,481 Blackpool - 8,438 Southend - 7,912 Swindon - 7,686 Peterborough - 7,502 Bristol Rovers - 7,021 Carlisle - 6,437 Brighton - 6,165 Tranmere - 5,998 S****horpe - 5,973 Gillingham - 5,906 Shrewsbury - 5,601 Notts County - 5,510 Brentford - 5,398 Stockport - 5,397 Bournemouth - 5,385 Colchester - 5,374 Oldham - 5,197 Oxford - 5,191 Wycombe - 5,133 League Two: Port Vale - 5,006 Northampton - 4,994 Leyton Orient - 4,946 Yeovil - 4,851 Exeter - 4,825 Walsall - 4,740 Crewe - 4,514 Hartlepool - 3,928 Lincoln - 3,896 Rotherham - 3,867 Cheltenham - 3,802 Chesterfield - 3,800 Rochdale - 3,240 Aldershot - 3,131 Bury - 2,990 Hereford - 2,943 Torquay - 2,863 Burton Albion - 2,446 Morecambe - 2,364 Stevenage - 2,260 Barnet - 2,119 Dagenham - 2,081 Macclesfield - 2,027 Accrington Stanley - 1,676

Missed out on prem by a 1000, but considering that includes a season in the 3rd tier I think it's still pretty impressive. Well done for your research, and well done to all who go and give us such fantastic support!
broughtonblue Posted 15 February 2011 Author Posted 15 February 2011 Does any of this mean anything at all? Means we have excellent support!!!!
lcfc"weasel" Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Does any of this mean anything at all? Not really, it is quite interesting though.
Dilkes Posted 17 February 2011 Posted 17 February 2011 Wigan had like 7000 yesterday in the cup tie with Bolton.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 17 February 2011 Posted 17 February 2011 interesting posts about attendance figures - oh and what a shame S****horpe beat F****t last night
Uncle Phil Posted 17 February 2011 Posted 17 February 2011 Middlesbrough's attendance is shocking, especially since they haven't been down here that long, never realised just how bad cov's is either.
