davieG Posted 3 June 2005 Posted 3 June 2005 Used by managers and other fans etc to fans Keep the Faith. It does my head in when people direct that phrase at me. After watching professional football for 40 years I don't need this patronising condescending garbage thank you. Desist Now Please.

davieG Posted 3 June 2005 Author Posted 3 June 2005 Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TornadoShaunUK Posted 3 June 2005 Posted 3 June 2005 I personally love the phrase, as I am a Bon Jovi fan, and to me it is a Bon Jovi fans phrase rather than a footballing one though I thought it was nice to see the club I support taking it up as their slogan
Hullfox Posted 3 June 2005 Posted 3 June 2005 It didn't seem condescending when we were going down the pan. Or is it just because it was a Mickey thing?
davieG Posted 3 June 2005 Author Posted 3 June 2005 It didn't seem condescending when we were going down the pan.Or is it just because it was a Mickey thing? 119058 Nothing to do with Micky, although he used it more than most, nothing to do with going down the pan, I've seen that often enough, well football wise. I just don't need people telling me to keep the faith thank you very much. I have been doing and will continue to do so until I decide I've had enough.
Guest freund Posted 3 June 2005 Posted 3 June 2005 Well we didn't hear you complaining when Adams was in charge.
davieG Posted 4 June 2005 Author Posted 4 June 2005 Well we didn't hear you complaining when Adams was in charge. 119097 Well you wern't with in ear shot then as I hated his use of it from day one.
Hullfox Posted 4 June 2005 Posted 4 June 2005 Chill out davie, methinks it must be a quiet news day to start this thread. Keep the faith.

Deathside Posted 4 June 2005 Posted 4 June 2005 I'm with Davieg on this one - It's patronising, outdated and gives me nightmares about bonjovi & the dark days under Micky Adams (I don't forget that there were also great days during Adams time here) I have a similar distain towards Stand up if you love Leicester - My alliegence has never been in doubt (Except to those who can't comprehend having a 2nd club (St Pauli)) - When I hear the tired old stand up if.... chant, my immediate thoughts are Fúck you - I won't do what you say When the stand up thing first materialised when we were relegated at Filbo V Manure it was powerful and meaningful, now it's just a warn out dullard ritual
TornadoShaunUK Posted 4 June 2005 Posted 4 June 2005 Bon Jovi are shit and so is that saying. 119196 So are you - ****weed
Nationwider Posted 4 June 2005 Posted 4 June 2005 "Keep The Faith" has always been a load of bollocks. And I'm with Deathside on the "Stand Up If You...etc etc" point. Yeeee-aaaawnnn! Can we stop singing this please? It's f***ing obvious we all love Leicester. Why else would fans pay £Â£Ã‚£s for the tickets each year?

Maybe we should have a list of songs to sing that aren't stating the obvious. And as for the point about us all loving the club, reading the content of the posts day in day out, I'm not wholly convinced that we all do.

Nationwider Posted 5 June 2005 Posted 5 June 2005 On the basis of that argument then, should we not sing "we love you Leicester, we do" as it's f***ing obvious that we do. It's just the standing up bit thats daft. After half an hour of continuous Leeds singing last season at WS, "Stand Up...etc" was embarrassing. Maybe we should have a list of songs to sing that aren't stating the obvious. Sarky. However, the new stadium has created a problem in terms of atmosphere and (lack of) singing. If I'd have had my way, we would have built an old-style (obsolete?) 4-stand stadium. You get the fans much closer to the pitch, the ground would have retained some character and individuality, and the traditional areas for the more vocal supporters would have been maintained. Filbert Street II, in other words. And as for the point about us all loving the club, reading the content of the posts day in day out, I'm not wholly convinced that we all do. "Loving the club" in the sense that the club is a tangible symbol of where most posters on the forum were born and/or indentify with and continue to support, regardless of on/off-field problems. Granted, there's lots of things to dislike about the club at the moment, and there are more important things in life than LCFC. Apart from the 5% of splitters on this forum, I'd say most posters would say they "loved the club" regardless. But I stand to be corrected.

Thing is, if you truly love someone/thing then you should not criticise it at every turn. As for the stadium being bad for the atmosphere, thats bollocks. Our home support is shit. You've just said how embarrassing we looked after Leeds sang for half an hour. They made an atmosphere in the Walkers why can't we???? They were an awful team, down in the doldrums after flirting with greatness but their supporters made a noise. They were passionate. It's our stadium, our home, it's up to us to make a noise. We still have a Kop don't we?

Thing is, if you truly love someone/thing then you should not criticise it at every turn. Agreed. On the pitch, the club will always go through peaks and troughs. Fact of life. In a perverse way, my sense of loyalty towards the club gets even stronger when we're crap. Maybe it's just because I like an underdog? As for the stadium being bad for the atmosphere, thats bollocks. Our home support is shit. You've just said how embarrassing we looked after Leeds sang for half an hour. I don't think there's a single reason for it, although I'm sure the ground itself is a large factor. In my opinion, a typical 15,000 Filbo crowd generated a far better atmosphere than a typical 25,000 Walkers crowd. No standing. Distance from the pitch. Post O'Neill malaise. New "Coca-Cola" fans and greater mix of people coming to The Walkers. Perceived lack of value for money. No Izzets, Lennons, Walshes etc for the fans to identify with. A general fickleness in fans assuming we should boss this league. Decent facilities mean people spend more time buying pies, having a piss etc than watching the match. The persistent belief of some people that a football match lasts 78 minutes and that the world will end if they are not out of the ground by 4.40pm. 22K in the ground at Filbo = 99% full. 22K at Walkers = 60% full. Egg-chasers continually robbing us of 15,000 extra fans a week. Just some ideas. Edit: and a very small % of stewards and fans who do their best to ruin everyone else's match.
