Electricity Sports 1960 Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 I'm new to this forum but not to watching Leicester City. This is the first Leicester City team I watched, around 1952 (I'd be grateful if someone could correct any errors and omissions) Johnny Anderson Stan Milburn Ron Jackson Jimmy Baldwin ? Tony Knapp / Ian King ? Ian Russell Mal Griffiths Johnny Morris Derek Hines Arthur Rowley Tom Dryburgh / Derek Hogg ? I'm really not sure about the centre-half or left winger.

Mine was the early 60s and I remember seeing both Knapp & King play. Never saw any of the others at least not as I remember.
Zingari Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 I'm fairly sure Tony Knapp and Ian King were a few years later than 52 possibly Matt Gillies , Norman Plummer or Billy Webb ?
Webbo Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 Looking at my Fossil and Foxes Knap and King didn't play for Leicester in 52. If you can remember who it was against I'll give you the team.

I think it was one of the Nottingham teams, very early in the season, maybe even the first match as I went to a reserve game at the end of the previous season aged 10. Do you have team line-ups for those days, even earlier maybe?
Webbo Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 First Game of the season 52/53 vs Notts County; 1 Johny Anderson. 2 Arthur Lever. 3 Stan Milburn. 4 Jimmy Baldwin. 5 Matt Gillies. 6 Johny King. 7 Mal Griffiths 8 Fred Worthington. 9 Derek Hines. 10 Arthur Rowley. 11 Tom Dryburgh. It has the line ups from every game upto 97 (in my copy)

The only thing I can remember was being bored out of my brain. I didn't go again that season.

StanSP Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 That right there is the one ex-city player i really wished i had seen play. Him and Keith Weller for me. When my dad reminisces about the good old days of Filbert Street, my dad never fails to mention how Weller shone every match.

Weller / Worthington (saw him play against us later in his career) / Glover / Rowley / Chandler / Sep Smith / Davie Gibson / tbh there are too many to mention so i would probably pick Rowley and Chandler as they were both goal machines for us
