Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 Diamond formation will never work with Abe King Oakley Wellens all central midfielders. If were going to play a diamond formation we need to play wingers such as dyer and gallagher to run at the defence and give us some width - yesterday and even against QPR we were far too narrow and gave the oppositions wing backs the chance to come forward join the attacks and get a cross in. the diamond formation is too defensie in my opinion and playing it aginst arguably the best two teams in the division is just asking for trouble. i would go dyer waghorn gallagher against scunthorpe - get at em with some pace and with players who want to play for the club - show yakubu and vassell that just because their the big names in the side there not always guaranteed a start. any thoughts on the diamond formation?

Agree to a point with this.It seemed to work against QPR (the diamond)but not last night. We are relying on both full backs to provide width,Naughton is great at it,not Berner.Norwich just saw we were very narrow and took advantage.
acooling08 Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 We don't really have any good wingers though. Dyer is OK at times but isn't good enough for a team going for the Prem. Starting Gally is a must imo; our corners and free kick deliveries are useless by anyone else.
Bugg Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 The diamond only really worked effectively at QPR because the pitch is tiny. On our pitch it just cannot be done because we need width to play on a pitch like that. I wouldn't be surprised to see the diamond remain for Scunny as they have a small pitch aswell.

We're getting ahead of ourselves if we're thinking only of players who are Prem quality now. We need players who will get us promoted; when we do, those not deemed good enough for the Prem can be replaced.

Darkon84 Posted 10 March 2011 Posted 10 March 2011 Why we changed from 4-3-3 I dont know. THIS ^^^^ It was a formation that was working, getting us results and the team itself lwas looking pretty settled playing it.
