Don't think it will be a free flowing game because of their pitch but it's not like we are playing our best football at the moment so a battling performance could suit us...can't wait for Saturday!

I personally think if there is any game in which to play howard it is this one. i wud go with howard and waggy up front for this one i just fancy them to romp it

Our success or otherwise is not down to whether we can possibly win all our remaining games. It's down to why the hell we've lost all the points we have done so far. And if you don't obliterate those reasons then we'll keep dropping points - whatever anyone chooses to guess on paper. Trouble is I don't think Sven and Faz will obliterate those reasons at all. In fact the more I see of them tactically the less impressed I am. And a lot of their recruiting is looking questionable - especially in terms of value for money. One day we will get a managerial team down here who believe in attack and know how to attack. Only then might we score the goals that will give us promotion. Rent a crowd, endless changes, questionable recruiting, slack technical basics and shifting philosophies ... you've no chance of winning anything like that. Something Fazackerly said at the Sven evening struck a bum note with me. He talked about recruiting the right types. Sven mentioned people having a smile on their faces. Lovely. A club full of model professionals. Me I'd rather have a dresssing room full of winners. With one or two mean bastards who'd set an example week in, week out and expect everyone around them to do the same. I hear what you're saying; we've spent a lot of money gambling on getting promoted this year which could all be with nothing to show for and thus having to spend again (and hopefully properly on players who want to join us rather than use us as a springboard.) My initial misgivings about Sven when he first joined us are beginning to surface again. He has contacts and influence that enables him to bring in a better class of player than previous managers, but what he seems to lack is the ability to get the best out of his players, which was a skill of both MoN and Pearson. I prefer the later way - players are bought cheaper and improve. Sven's way allows little room for improvement and is expensive. We may have already seen the best of this team. I also have misgivings about the youth being to cope so well with having to rebuild their confidence and quickly. When we were on our unbeaten run I said that the real test would be what happens when we lose - so far we're failing that test. Having said that I believe that with a win on Saturday we can go on to be unbeaten for the rest of the season, even against Forest away. Such is football; but such is football that I also think we could do that and still not be promoted... 7 points (8 given our goal difference) is a big ask, especially with some many teams between us and the goal. We need 4 teams to drop 8 more points than we do. We might win every game and not have that happen.

We were rock BOTTOM when he came in! our Defence was league 1 standard and our attack pothetic. He has brought in all the right players but how the hell can you expect him to click his fingers and get them to work instantly? He hasn't even had a pre season for christ sake and your judging his tactics? He is utilising what he has! Our Defence has constantly changed over the season and this is for me where the problem lies lets just have a look. So Starting back four so far: Weale Neilson Hobbs Morrison Burner. Weale Lemay Moreno Hobbs Burner Ikeme Neilson/Lamey Hobbs Moreno/Morrison Burner Sven. Weale Naughton Davies Hobbs Cunningham - Injured Kirkland Naughton Davies Vitor Burner Weale Naughton Bamba Mee/Hobbs Burner Ricardo Naughton Bamba Bruma Van Aanholt.... Now thats a rough outline of how our defence has looked this season. I'm sorry but Sven has tried to plug up holes but has hit problems such as Vitor getting injured, Davies leaving, Cunningham Injured, and then Van Aanholt Injured! You cannot expect the defence to remain solid when it is constantly disrupted. Sven has been put under huge pressure from the off to turn the team around. He has had to utilise the Loan market to the best of his ability to try and change our fortunes, and guess what....He HAS! for god's sake we have gone from a hopeless relegation wreck getting battered 6-1 by pompy to fighting for a play off place! People need to get a grip, just because we are not pounding teams left right and center the fans start booing? Pothetic. Just be thankfull for what Sven has done so far! Look at QPR, they struggled when they first came into money, they nearly got relegated! but now look at them! Instead of moaning get behind the lads and help them fight this one last hurdle, and if we don't make it then we look to next year! where Sven will have a change to forge his own team, get rid of the crap and acctually have a pre season preparing them! Keep the faith in Sven.

Keep the faith in Sven. Does everyone seriously think that we would have stayed rock bottom all season even if sousa had stayed? The form of our last 5/6 games has not been much better than Sousa's first 5/6. Explain that one! Talking about defenses, we had the 3rd best defense in the league last year (may be 5th can't remember but high up there) and they were all on diddly squit, now we have a multi million pound defense that is one of the worse in the league, Bamba has been found out (he sits too far away from players and allows them to turn) Mee has been found out (He panics when a player runs at him in and around the box) Naughton (pushes so far up front, and because there is no wide midfielder he is not covered, so other teams exploit that side. Not his fault but a tactical floor in our team) Berner ( Gets forward but again leaves a hole which was the same as VA) Last year we had a back 4, they stood there ground, and when they pushed forward they were covered by one of the wide midfielders i.e. oakley on one side and gallagher on the other. Defensively we set up two lines of four high up the pitch, this allowed us to win the ball earlier and get the ball forward to waggie or fryatt quickly ready for them to do their thing. Simple but effectively. Followed by good old fashioned grit. determination and team spirit. Sven has come in and complicated everything, he has a bunch of individuals and not a team! On paper we look amazing, but on the pitch we look lost. Especially at the back. Too much chopping and changing is what has led to this. Before January transfers we looked good and on form, then Sven brings in more players and sends out players like Hobbs on loan, Boom squad morale drops, performances drop, it was only a matter of time for our crap performances led to a loss and then with no team spirit and low morale we cannot dig ourselves out of it. Thats football, but i don't think Sven is the legend that everyone seems to rate him as. He has for me shown, and especially lately, that he does not know English football very well at all. but hey no one reads my posts so I don't know why i bother. ha.

The type of football we have seen we're capable of so far is what we're aiming for on a consistent basis. The kind that can compete at the top end of this division and a higher level. I hope there are not too many changes over the next couple of years, I want us to build a squad, a great squad that grows together but if some sacrifices have to be made on the way then so be it.

Seriously though, are we really playing that much better than we did under Pearson? Playing it around in our own half for 5 minutes, where does that get you? It doesn't score goals and just wastes potential scoring time in my opinion. I love passing football don't get me wrong, but just like the England team we over play the ball on so many occasions. The ball goes backwards so often when it should have been pumped into the box its really frustrating. We were more direct under Pearson I know that much. QPR didn't play amazing football and in fact there goal was scored from a hoofball, Norwich's third likewise on Tuesday night. We have to balance this "football" that everyone seems to love, with playing the "dirty" way. Get the combination right and then, and only then, do you become a play-off or promotion winning side. I agree with you that we need to not make big changes in the next few years, and yes if we keep this squad next season then i think we can use pre-season to bond everyone into a team, but at the moment we are not a team, we are a squad and this is showing on the pitch. Back to basics is what we need right now, it wll get us points on the board. Pretty or not!

I like the direction we're heading in but we often struggle to adapt to the way a team plays against us when it isn't going our way. I'm of the opinion that although there are mistakes at the moment the squad is still in it's early stages and we can learn from this season. I know what you mean about last season but we have an entirely different manager now who just isn't going to play like Pearson did. We knew that when he came in. Sloppyness has been the main issue the last couple of weeks, for me. In defence we seem to switch off far too often and like you say, basics. Midfield needs to tuck in and minimise space and everyone needs to be tighter to their men. We seem reluctant to go backs to the wall even when we're being forced to and most of the goals conceded recently have come from giving opposition players way to much free space and time in the box. Again, in attack, sloppy. We've not been short of chances but like earlier in the season we've not been taking them. Sloppy finishing like Waghorns against QPR for example.

I think with those 2, Bamba and a left back TBA we could have a really solid back 4 and more importantly, a cohesive one.
