The Sven Revolution

People here saying Sven's not doing the job!

The problem with this site, IMO, is twofold:

Firstly, it is abusive, with certain people frequently using derogatory and sometimes personal remarks

Secondly, it appears coercive, with anybody countering the mainstream opinion treated with 'groupthink' ie. lots of jumping on the bandwagon of mainstream opinion. I do not count yourself in this, from what I've read, your views are balanced and well thought-out. However, this is not the case for many, and it is very difficult to enter a 'two-way conversation', when met with comments such as 'dross' and 'the embodiment of misanthropy'.

However, I shall continue to post what I believe are valid views of Sven, as I did when I was previously on here a couple of years back, posting my concerns about Holloway at a time when I was utterly shouted-down for doing so.

Without the freedom to comment, in an adult way, this site serves no purpose.

For the record, Sven has done a good job at city, is able to attract some better players and I as much as any, was disappointed to see us slip-back when it looked like we were going forward. I absolutely hope we beat pompey and ultimately sneak 6th. However, as a motivator and a tactician, I still have reservations about Sven - as a lifelong City fan I hope I'm proved wrong.

Stop crying like a girl you ****ing twat.

I think he has done a fantastic job for us.

People forget that he hasn't had a full pre-season and has really been expected to create an instant winning team with loans and what we already have. Not an easy job at all, especially with how competitive this league is.

He has definitely made mistakes on the way but no manager is perfect and he is only going on what he see's in training everyday.

I think this season could be a stretch too far after our recent dip but as long as the Thai's are prepared to back him again in the Summer, and Sven thinks more long-term with his signings rather than quick fixes, then he will have us winning the league.

For all the doubters out there, just give him some more time and I think everyone can see that he is here for the long-term and success will come if the Thai's continue to back us.

I'm guessing you haven't had access to the internet for too long?

You're not down the pub with your like minded friends - you're on a forum with people of all ages, from all countries and from all walks of life. People won't agree with you for the sake of it and some people will argue with you because they have nothing better to do.

Nobody has said that they want Sven to be sacked, however some of have aired our views and concerns about some of the mistakes he has made. I am not going to highlight them all again, and there is quite a few in all honesty.

A few weeks ago we had the same number of points that we had at that point the season before, of course that was a major achievement to get to that point and fair play to the team. However after that, was where the big test would begin, could we take that form into the big games and beat our closest rivals, and to be quite honest the we failed completely at that test.

No man is perfect, and yes i truly believe that Sven is the right man for us, but, he is far from perfect and seen as this is a forum where people discuss things like that, then i do not see how anyone has a right to come on here and taunt those who were simply pointing out the reasons why we lost those big games.

Up the city, Sven has my full support but i just wish some supporters would stop trying to claim that just because he has worked for "big clubs" and is a "well known" name, then he is faultless, because by judging him purely from this season, then that isn't even close to being true.

Much like ricardo and yak, just because they are "well known" does not mean they are elite and beyond mistakes, or even better than what we already had. Matt Fryatt has still scored more than Yakubu this season, and our right back is close up his tail, that says enough surely?

p.s. sorry about the Fryatt stat, but it is true.

p.s.s I am not claiming that Fryatt would have scored like that for us either, just pointing out that i think the yak needs to get his arse into gear.

So the intention was not to taunt, but rather galvanize the fans to back Sven regardless of what we do in the next 9 games! Simple point is, ofcourse we all have views about certain loan signings, not starting with Waghorn, letting Fryatt go etc and we can debate that..all fans of all clubs do that..but the debate should never turn to is Sven the man for us..he has clearly shown that he is..so why bring it up time and again..and on your point about Sven having managed big clubs and won more silverware than any manager who has come close to this club in a long time..ofcourse Sven has all that history and that should be accounted for..its fact thats it and we should respect that..

Sven's been good for us.

I'm not going to be walking down Gallowtree Gate with an 'I Love Sven' flag anytime soon, far from it, but it is an unavoidable fact he has improved things.

Whether his 8 defeats in the same length of time most teams have only lost 4/5 has improved things enough to warrant his astronomical wages & the reputation that proceeds him is entirely another debate, but he has improved things and therefore by default has been good for us. End.

I know we are a club playing in the championship (hopefully that will change soon!)..but when you hire a manager of Sven's pedigree you also have to pay..and to put things into perspective he is on what 1 million pounds a year..yes thats v good money..but compare that to what Moyes, Redknapp, Houllier and the like make...all of them make 3-4 times what he makes and Sven has more trophies to his name than even the 3 of these put together..so when we say 'astronomical'..we may want to put a context to it..

£3m two year contract (£1.5m/year) the plan was obviously to have the second year of that in the Prem with the club receiving up to £90m of revenue... Like I said in my comment above though:

That is including bonuses I believe..minus that its 1 million a year. Anyway either way its much lesser than what other 'lesser' managers make. I was making a point on the 'astronomical' bit, either way if at the end of next season we are in the PL (if not this season) it will be all worth it!

And what if we aint?

What if Man City don't finish in top 4 this season, what if Chelsea don't, what if Real don't win a trophy this season...THE MANAGER GETS SACKED (and deserves to be ) and the club takes a backward step ( I know we aren't Chelsea, Man City or Real but we have ambition and that's a chance we have to take)..
