The Shreds Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I have recently recieved news that Jimmy Goodfellow, former Leicester City player and 1964-65 seasons leading goalscorer passed away last weekend. I used to work as an electrician with Jimmy when he was near retirement (2000-2002) and I was a young apprentice. He used to frequently recall the players he met, games he played and goals he scored and I always loved hearing the stories. He was one of the nicest blokes i've met still to this day and I hope that, wherever he is on the other side, he's with his old buddies, a football and a bit of decent turf. Some bits I found out about him on the internet: Cities biggest wins: City's biggest win over Plymouth was by 5-0 in the F A Cup Fourth Round meeting in January 1965, on a frozen Filbert Street surface, when Jimmy Goodfellow kept his balance to net a brace. Chelsea 3-2 Leicester City (1964-65 League Cup Final 1st Leg): Chelsea faced holders Leicester City in the 1965 League Cup Final, which was contested over two legs. It was the fifth time the competition had been staged, and Chelsea were seeking to become the first London side to win it in their third appearance in the competition. Match review The first leg took place on 15 March 1965 at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea twice took the lead in the match, first through Bobby Tambling and then a Terry Venables penalty, but Leicester equalised on both occasions via Colin Appleton and Jimmy Goodfellow. With ten minutes remaining, Chelsea's Eddie McCreadie received the ball on the edge of his own penalty area and went on a sixty yard run, dribbling past several Leicester players before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Gordon Banks, giving Chelsea a 3-2 advantage to take to Filbert Street for the second leg.

Guest Bilo Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 RIP Jimmy. Sad to hear about this, sounds as though he was a great player and hope the boys can get a win for him on Saturday.
mikey54 Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Yep - remember him well, way back when we had a forward line of Sinclair, Goodfellow, Dougan, Gibson, Stringfellow. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he was the very first substitute used by the City. I good little inside right.
