Geo Caching

Anyone heard of this?

A friend at work recommended it (though to be fair he does do this with his kids, so not sure how fun it could actually be).

People around the world hide caches (apparently there's even one on the international space station) and leave the GPS location and a clue on the website (www.geocaching.com).

You can swap the item for one of your own or just leave it be and note it down.

You can also hide your own caches.

There are also 'tracker' caches which people leave with a specific destination in mind and if you find it and can move it a little bit closer to the desired destination then you do so and update the site with the new GPS.

I stuck my postcode in and there are literally hundreds of caches within a few miles of my house (including one from illinois which is destinied for Siberia).

There's an app you can download to save you buying a GPS device.

Potentially could be interesting...

Just read that there is one 0.4miles from myself, so myself and Mee-9 may go and sign it later lol.

What are Caches?

Treasure

Basically they are the packages/containers that people hide and people find. They can contain anything from a rubber ball to a piece of poetry to an inscribed tankard, etc, etc...

I saw these mentioned a couple of months ago (think it was on Countryfile) and meant to look into it. Cheers for bringing it back up.

One of our friends told us about these, and we looked for one at Dunstanburgh Castle in Northumberland. It consisted off, about four 1 cent coins, a notebook to write your name, and a condom.

What's the name of the App? I'm on Android and there are about 20 choices.

Also I'm really ****ing bored today so this should keep me entertained.

Just been out for 1 and a half hours looking for it. Could not find it. So addicting though, going back out tomorrow lol.

Wow, bet you wished you hadn't bothered now. Someone must have hidden a dildo or something in one of them.

Searched my area and found this one near my house

Casuarina Reserve is small two hectare reserve which contains an area of remnant indigenous vegetation and a grassed area with isolated trees. The bushland section is being regenerated for wildlife habitat and passive recreation (nature study, bushwalking, geocaching), while the grassed section is managed for active recreation (playground, picnics).

Take extra care in the warmer months as Copperhead and Tiger Snakes can be seen basking in the open grassy areas in summer.

You are looking for a camouflaged 1 litre Sistema container.

Good luck!

Will see how i go!

Why don't you place one? I could imagine you placing a used condom in one.

Ha i wont :P I tried it today only because i walked to the shop to get something and then played footy with a few mates and it was on the way. A bit to easy to find and the pencil to sign the book was blunt and there was a few toy cars in it. Pretty shit overall. I was hoping for atleast a few grand.
