21st Century Fox Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 We don't have an unlimited budget. What was meant by the term "unlimited budget" was that Sven has been handed a number (believed to be around £10 million) if he decides he really needs more then the Thai's will back him within reason, that number isn't the be all and end all. We do not have £100 million that Sven can blow to create some Championship Galácticos. There's no point coming straight out of the gate and spending big, because we'll get taken to the cleaners. We aren't missing out on anyone already being signed, Sven (no doubt with some help from Tord) will have carefully drawn up his list and will know exactly what he wants. Cool your jets.

21st Century Fox Posted 11 June 2011 Author Posted 11 June 2011 Chopra is quality Guessing Sven didn't want him, he wouldn't fit into Sven's system. We don't have to go for anyone just because they're available.

Bettsj2 Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Chopra's not as good as he thinks he is. That's why he's gone to Ipswich.

Guest Col city fan Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 Guessing Sven didn't want him, he wouldn't fit into Sven's system. We don't have to go for anyone just because they're available. So many people keep on droning on about 'Svens system'.... And that certain players won't fit into it... What exactly is Svens system? I was unsure last season? Four three three? Four four two? The 'Christmas pudding' with wellens as the thruppeny bit? Tell you what, here's an idea... How's about signing some quality and working a system around the best players we have and the best we can get?
jamesmilner Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 sven , if he is the professional you lot think he is , should have had his list of players he wanted for this season by at least march early april finalised with extras if needed . fact ( if he is professional ) . please dont show your ignorance by saying players are on leave as a player doesnt sort these things its agents that do that and they are on overtime . no movement here but other clubs showing the way . people slagging chopra etc maybe is ok , maybe ! but with absolutely no movement here , chopra would have at least been a start (better than some sven has brought here ).see svens system mentioned , wtf is that ?he has had quite a few systems lacking results last season . strange comment lacking description . in sven we HAVE to trust , but my trust is wearing a little thinner by the passing day . ok, he can sign enough players in a day that would do a job for us but when has that ever happened ? this so called championship winning side is nowhere in sight yet and thats another fact ! july the 1st is preseason training start day , business should be done for a few players by then and all done by the time we leave for sweden . TIME WILL TELL ! interesting few weeks ahead me thinks .
jamesmilner Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 The owners need to leave now, I fear for the future of the club for some reason. i think might be a tongue in cheek comment but if this so called plan for city does not work , we could be falling off a cliff sometime , could be years away but is a scary reality . the only way in football is the jack walker way , but our owners are on a self sufficient mission and STAY in the premiership . is this MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ?

Haven't heard from you in a while Col City Fan its always good to hear your "fair and balanced" opinion. Of course every manager has a preferred set-up, Sven knows his and knows which types of players will work best within that. No ones saying he's some magical manager who can take a group any old players and mould them into a winning team, there are few who can do that. I don't see alot of clubs doing alot of business at the moment to be honest, I don't know why we'd be doing any different. Just because we haven't heard about negotiations in some rag doesn't mean they aren't happening, its madness to think otherwise.
The Doctor Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 jamesmilner, do you not know how to punctuate properly? There is no space between the final word of a sentence and the punctuation mark at the end of it. Also captial letters should only be used to mark the start of a new sentence or at the start of a name, not just random capitalising of words. Finally, use paragraphs to break up big chunks of writing if you want people to pay much attention to what you type. While agents will still be working, the players have to agree to the deals as well, so while the players are on holiday there is going to be fairly little movement. Why does the vast majority of transfer business have to been done before July 1st? How often do you see a club make all their signings in June and then spend all of July just training? As with every season it is to be expected a fair proportion of our transfer activity will be done during July, now calm the **** down. If we're still looking very light on personell come mid-July then, by all means, be concerned about our squad but for now just accept that we aren't going to be signing bucket-loads of players every week because for one the players are still on holiday or international duty (U-21 championships). Also a possiblility is that the targets Sven has in mind are targets for other clubs, causing any transfer to be drawn out as both the player and his current club (should he be under contract) will be looking to play the interested parties off against each other to make as much money from the transfer as they can.

I'm not concerned as yet but part of my, and many other posters', optimism for the coming season over the previous few months has been the thought of Sven having a whole pre-season to work with the players. I think even Sven might be a bit concerned if he turns up for day 1 of pre-season and Robbie Neilson is the best right back option available. The longer any new signings are at the club before the start of the season, the better.
Haydos Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 I hope your not serious?? I am not. They have done nothing so far that can be considered 'bad' or even 'worrying'. Yet people still seem to need to question them constantly. I'm by no means suggesting we sit back because it'll all be roses because with the state of football nowadays you can't help but be cautious when it comes to foreign investment. BUT, I see no reason to start new threads based on nothing but someone's ridiculous negativity and paranoia. I can't remember the last time a balanced thread was started up with both sides of the coin presented and an actual well thought out debate began. It's always "Is something Amiss?", "Hobbs out, Bamba in, Massive error in judgement" and "So where's the money then?". It's just plain stupid. People have deluded views of us as a football club and think you can become a force over night and we have a god given right to make huge signings and that Sven should be able to talk anyone into joining us. Look at Man City. Even they with their actual unlimited budget have struggled through the last few years, slowly building a squad after originally chucking money at over-inflated, below average transfer targets. Believe it or not there's a middle ground between blind faith and startling paranoia that something is wrong, that too few a poster takes up. If you're not kicking up a fuss about the lack of activity or the fact that we're not in the Champions League yet then apparently you're naive and stupid.

It was mentioned that alot of our targets especially the loans hinged on the what other clubs/parent clubs did transfer wise. I'm quite sure are hands are tied with that respect.

This thread wasn't meant as a negative attack on the Thais. This is because I'm sick of hearing people quote our "Unlimited" budget and how we should have signed every player going already. I don't think many people really grasped what the "unlimited" part really meant and lost all sense of reality transfer wise. It was probably down to some bad reporting by the Mercury or a poor sound-bite from Sven but as Zingari mentioned "flexible" would have been a much more accurate choice of word.

But back to my/your point. I was supporting you as you as well were highlighting the delusion and knee-jerk reactionists on the forum.

Also I wrote interesting few weeks ahead n/h! So what? Do you really think that managers would just look through that website and sign who-ever they want? We aren't Man U, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona or anyone like that, despite Sven having money to work with we are still going to have to compete with other clubs for signings, talks to sign players will be long due to this competition. Those two U-21 players are Henderson & Jones, who moved to Liverpool & Man U respectively, hardly comparable to our situation, they have the money to spend big and sign several players at the very start of the window. We on the other hand have a much more limited budget and so have to be more careful and avoid being held to ransom, we have to shop around and so will take longer to make signings of the level the Thai's & Sven will be after. Finally, what does n/h mean?

Why Chopra? just because he's recently moved to another club.

IMO too much is made of 'systems' Imagine that Pep Guardiola left Barca and they got a new manager in... do you imagine for one second that the new man would think about dropping Iniesta, Xavi or Villa because he felt they may not fit into his new 'system'? Of course not, instead a 'system' has been built around the quality players they have (or could get) which has then become their preferred way of playing. Turn it on its head... rather than selling Hobbs and Waggy (our supposedly best two young players in recent times), why not build a system around their strengths and potential? If Sven's 'system' (which you are absolutely right to say we have not yet seen or understood, despite having two-thirds of a season to develop one) is not fruitful, then we are, again IMO, getting rid of two of our bright young players. I'd like to see some indication of what Sven is going to do in terms of a playing style, and some indication of who it is he wants to sign to play that way The clock is ticking.... tick-tock.....

Why don't you wanna build the team around him? Bamba will get a lot more done if he gets the same support you want Hobbs to get. Bamba or Hobbs.....
