The "Unlimited Budget" Myth

Recommended Posts

Hope we make some kind of signing this week coming, my Derby supporting manager is already starting to rib me saying they have made three to four signings and are after Nathan Tyson :dunno:

Out of interest, anyone know when preseason training starts, i'm taking a rough guess at three weeks time?

There a rumours abound that no transfer activity will not happen until the new CEO has had a look at the books, seems very much a mirror image

of the situation at Birmingham City with promises of millions by Carson Yeung but nothing forth coming, the best talent is always available early in the window

and possibly the more expensive, but if you leave it until August you are left with the left overs or the 33 + year old crocks

IMO too much is made of 'systems'

Imagine that Pep Guardiola left Barca and they got a new manager in... do you imagine for one second that the new man would think about dropping Iniesta, Xavi or Villa because he felt they may not fit into his new 'system'?

Of course not, instead a 'system' has been built around the quality players they have (or could get) which has then become their preferred way of playing.

Turn it on its head... rather than selling Hobbs and Waggy (our supposedly best two young players in recent times), why not build a system around their strengths and potential?

If Sven's 'system' (which you are absolutely right to say we have not yet seen or understood, despite having two-thirds of a season to develop one) is not fruitful, then we are, again IMO, getting rid of two of our bright young players.

I'd like to see some indication of what Sven is going to do in terms of a playing style, and some indication of who it is he wants to sign to play that way

The clock is ticking.... tick-tock.....

I don't think we've seen Sven's preferred 'style', 'system', 'set-up', 'tactics' whatever you wish to call it yet because he hasn't had the players he needs to do this. How many managers come into a club and work the way they want with the players they have, not many. He had a few loans to patch up areas, but that was it. You can't bring Barcelona into your argument because the calibre of their players mean they are far more adaptable to different ways of playing.

I have yet to see a post by you that hasn't been either a) Negative or b) Sven bashing.

Back to my original point...

According to the BBC the Chamionship transfers so far...

June 1 - None

June 2 - None

June 3 - None

June 4 - None

June 5 - None

June 6 - Yannick Bolasie [Plymouth - Bristol City] Undisclosed, Will Buckley [Watford - Brighton] £1m

June 7 - None

June 8 - Chris Burke [Cardiff - Birmingham] Free*

June 9 - Craig Bryson [Kilmarnock - Derby] Undisclosed

June 10 - Michael Chopra [Cardiff - Ipswich] £1.5m, Marlon King [Coventry - Birmingham] Free

So are we really lagging behind on the transfer front.

You have not read enough of my posts or simply the ones you want to read to criticise... Don't forget ive not criticised you.. I just don't agree with you... I won't call you a 'sven bummer' or any such nonsense but I'm not going to stop making points simply because of your critique.

Back to my original point... It's time we all saw some movement and to stop saying that chopra won't work or king won't work etc etc simply because of some random notion of svens 'system'.. Let's get some good players at the club and maybe not get rid of the good ones either?

My view, no need for you to be rude

But thats just two players that have moved from a list of six. I'm sure Sven has HIS targets and negotiations and approaches are happening behind the scenes. As you can see from that list we aren't lagging behind other clubs, we aren't missing out.

The owners need to leave now, I fear for the future of the club for some reason.

Sorry, but

And I believe Sven is trying to get quality from abroad as they are much cheaper.

Wich? His contacts with Grip as top dog or the cheaper players thing?

There is no point panicking yet, what the unlimited budget means is that Sven has the full backing of the owners not that Sven is walking round with a bulging wallet (even though he most probably does), most of what you read is lazy journalism and we won't get an idea of how much we have untill we acctually start spending. Plus I don't think we will hear anything about last years loans until pre-season starts. Sven knows what he is doing..

Why do you believe he is going for cheaper foreign players? Are you assuming this or do you know this to be true?

Regarding cheaper players you can't get much cheaper than the plethora of british based free transfers that have become available this summer..

Posted

Not really the points I was making to be honest.. Simply, what IS svens system? And why not get some quality in and fit em in?

Chopra, et al would improve this squad surely?

Chopra wouldn't improve the squad. Often injured and flatters to deceive.

The so called free transfers isn't "free" of charge. The cost of a player is nearly the same but if the player is free he gets the money himself....... A player cost always what the market thinks he's worth regardless of wages or fees.

The cheaper foreign players, Bojinov, Corluka, Elano, Petrov, Bianchi, Fernandes, Caicedo, Garrido, Castillo at Man City.

But I can be wrong because he's probably has a lot of people in England talking about how "bad" the Championship League is. :giggle:

I dont think this is true, of course the player will want a sign on fee but if someone signed rooney on a free transfer they wouldnt have to pay him a £30m sign on fee because thats his value

Allright, if a players value is set by the teams that want his signature, what do you think Rooney would get as a free transfer? If he sets his signature on a contract for four years he will get a lot of money, no doubt. And the total cost for the club is probably the same.

Free transfers are definitely cheaper. A lot of the cost in a 'normal' transfer comes from covering the value of the remaining contract in place. That's why a player with 4 years on his contract might sell for 25m, but if only 1 year remains he'd sell for 8m.

Believe me, if free transfer players took home what would otherwise have gone to the selling club, every player would run out their contract and take home a whackin great wad of cash!

Their sign-on fee is probably about what the transfer fee would have been in the last year of their contract or a little less.

And for that, we as fans should give Sven and the Raksiaksorns all the time that they need to make up their mind. You just come across as one of those silly teenagers who're acting up because things don't go your way.

You know the meaning of the word "patience"?
