john_lcfc Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 blair is obsessed with europe and i think we should be seperate from it so all the little minor countries dont steal our money
kerryh Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 Bloody petrol is about to go up! I think we need to take Mugabe out too - The man is an evil monster and can't get away with what he's doing in Zimbabwe.

He's the root of all evil, I think we should got and do a smash and grab mission in Zimbabwe. As for Blair, words fail me.
Robsdee Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 I don't mind paying income tax, it's indirect taxes that really piss me off. You pay tax on the same money twice+. Blair IMO is not a good leader but TBH who would be better

Guest Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 There are too many problems in our society that government can't handle. Playing around in Europe is not helping, and I can see people's frustrations, but if we don't keep a foot in the door there we will be worse off. The UK is not big enough any more to be a world power on its own.
stez Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 on the current state of england/britain on the political front? ok, could be better, but not as bad a when john major was in charge is blair focusing too much on europe and not concentrating enough on the state of our own country? he bound to be, the uk hold the presidency of of europe in the next few weeks. the ministers in charge of the departments are in carge of the policies for those departments and haveto ask gordon brown for the cash they want. are we paying too much tax? yes are the new taxing ideas too taxing?? dunno

Grin-and-Blair-it would be better off (sorry, more suited) in theatre playing the devil. They'd give him a forked tail to go with his forked tongue.

Guest freund Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 Oh by the way Tomassi, trying to be clever/controversial doesn't suit you
Thracian Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 There are too many problems in our society that government can't handle. Playing around in Europe is not helping, and I can see people's frustrations, but if we don't keep a foot in the door there we will be worse off. The UK is not big enough any more to be a world power on its own. 126513[/snapback] Why do we want to be a World power?. Switzerland gets on well enough minding its own business and we've got enough problems (plus more to come) without being arrogant enough to believe we can solve the rest of the World's. That said I WOULD like to see the establishment of a genuine and enforceable list of World ideals on matters of ethical/ecological/common concern etc. These would define best practice for national Governments and the multi-national enforcement team would have the power to rid the world of its Robert Mugabes forthwith. We need world determination to act on vital matters of ecological importance: renewable energy, depletion of fish stocks, the effect on resources of China's (and India's) emergence as major economies and so much more. The World truly needs a set of Commandments and ideals which are common to all and which we are prepared to live by (not just when it suits)....such as (I would list for discussion )... Thou Shalt Not kill people nor should we kill animals except for our genuine dietary needs or to prevent unreasonable suffering. Thou Shalt not Steal (either property, intellectual rights, life - both 'breath of' and in the form of illegal detention/forced labour Thou Shalt Not Cheat (In business or personal contracts, advertising, publicity etc). Thou Shalt Not Manipulate People (important this when you remember Chairman Mao, Stalin, Hitler). Thou Shalt Not Seek To Culture Anything But A Free and Independent Media (such manipulation has been utterly and murderously destructive on occasions) etc, etc. It really is time that nations started talking and acting in the interests of the Planet and its peoples rather than perpetually warring and randomly destroying or depleting its resources. All Government should be by compact groups of elected and answerable "wise men" who would all be rotated out of "power" in three year cycles to prevent the development of power-bases and avoid the cancer of public service which is corruption and greed. Likely? I doubt it. The EC has failed in many people's eyes because unelected and unanswerable people have been trying to extend its power and influence beyond the wishes of its people and without their leave and have been doing so by stealth and deception to boot. We need a better formula for developing a prosperous Europe and a better formula for running the World. The above are seriously precied (hope I've spelt that right) thoughts but I hope they are enough to provoke vigorous discussion, exploration and development.
