Sports biggest questions discussed

Recommended Posts

So basically a thread to discuss sports greatest unanswered questions. Did a quick search couldnt find anything so decided to create one.

First discussion is who would have won in a fight Muhhamed Ali or Mike Tyson when they were both on top form?

I appreciate that there probably isnt a lot of golfers on this board, but here is the question:

I have closely looked at data from a trackman box (orange box you sometimes see at a tour event/driving range where they are running a demo day)

Assuming you aim EXACTLY at your target, and swing EXACTLY on plane, with an EXACTLY square face at impact...............................

Why will you NEVER hit a straight shot. Why will the ball NOT end up at your target?

I think (probably mis spent youth as well) got the answer to this question. But it contradicts what a pro would teach you.

Another question for you all:

Im a snooker fan. love the sport.

What is your theory on 'the kick''?

just some observations to add into the equation from my point of view

a) It seems players get kicks when they play shots plain ball. Why would this be the case over screw/follow through shots?

b) players rarely seem to get a kick when in and amongst the balls, particularly around the black

c) Kicks seem to be far more prevalent on quicker and thinner cloths

d) 9 ball pool players never seem to (in my experience) receive a kick

your thoughts on this issue?

(My questions so far admittedly arent aimed at many people and are probably shit)

Cannot believe you asked that question!

Tyson never beat anyone of any quality above Light-Heavyweight (maybe Ruddock actually which I thought that was his peak), Spinks was no more than a light-heavyweight and if you took Tyson past 4 rounds you would stand a great chance of winning the fight. On the fact he lost to Buster Douglas anyone with a decent chin and good strong jab would of stood a chance so Ali shouldnt have had a problem with that jab and his speed off the back foot.

Lewis showed the same and would of beat Tyson in "his prime", I'd even give Vitali Klitschko a strong chance given his chin and ability to go stronger as the rounds develop.

Wind currents and resistance I'd assume - in a perfect vacuum it would be perfectly straight but the meteorological conditions affect the flight.

this is an interesting answer but not correct considering the spin, trajectory and attack data (pure ballistic data) that trackman boxes collect, independent of conditions

Liverpool (1978) - Back-to-back European Cup winners and four titles within five years.

Manchester United (1999) First English team to win the treble of FA Cup, Premiership and Champions League in history.

Nottingham Forest (1980) Back-to-back European Cup winners, only team to stop Liverpool winning five consecutive titles.

Arsenal (2004) First top flight team to go a full season unbeaten since Preston in 1888.

If we were to put these teams at their peak in a kind of mini-league, like a Champions League qualifying group for example, which would win?

Would the fitness of the Manchester United and Arsenal teams tell against the late 1970s and early 1980s teams, or would the all-round brilliance of those sides that dominated English and European football still translate?

Tyson beat Everyone in the Division at the time through fear.

He was an animal in the ring.

When he lost to Douglas he was on the start of a downward spiral(thanks to the company he kept, his infidelity and affiliation with Don King)

Then came his defeats to lewis/holyfield which were when he was 6-7 years off his prime and after a spell in prison.

Ali was a one-off genius.

The way he beat (the then Tyson!) George Foreman aka the Grillman....(Yes he was a Champion Boxer before he made grilling things!) was awesome.

Ali at his prime v Tyson at his prime-watch Ali v Foreman and that is waht would have happened in my opinion!!

If the barcelona of today faced the real Madrid of 1955-60 (the puskas, di stefano era 5 CL's in a row) in an el clasico showdown who would win

I agree about the fear thing, in fact you could say Tyson never beat anybody that wasn't scared of him.

I can't agree he was on a downward spiral when he fought JBD, he just ran into a huge jab and a good chin, something that Tyson always had problems with, even back to his early career when he fought journeymen like Jesse Ferguson and Mtch Green. Even his title fights V Smith and Tucker he was took the distance fairly comfortably.

Seems to be a myth surrounding Tyson has some KO machine that obliterated everyone early in Britain because casual fans here only watch things like the Spinks/Bruno fight, the same idiots that gave Haye a chance V Klitschko.

This Barca side would beat any in history IMO.

JBD was a 42-1 underdog, who showed NO fear and just hung in and hit the nail on the end.

But remember if it wasnt for the ref fcuking up on his counting Tyson would have won that too!

I dont think until then anyone really tested him enough to put him under immense pressure did they?

Also bear in mind in Alis era there was ALOT of true class heavyweights.

I know, my grandad (best boxing tipster I've met) had £20 on JBL to win it (even more when he fought Hoylfield) Tony Tucker's fight with Tyson before the Douglas fight was closer than the cards read, I thought Mike won it by a round or two.

Douglas wasnt hanging on this fight, he was totally dominating it, the scores at the end of the 10th (inc knockdown) stood at...(and Rozadilla's card was the most accurate imo)

time: 1:22 | referee: Octavio Meyran | judge: Larry Rozadilla 90-98 | judge: Ken Morita 95-96 | judge: Masakazu Uchida 94-96

There will never be another time like Ali's era for heavyweights, it's just a shame we never saw him V Tefilo Stevenson as I think TS might have been the greatest heavyweight boxer to ever walk the planet.
