Minute Silence

Recommended Posts

No it wasn't !! the last post was to be played prior to the minutes silence as it is in the armed forces , hence there wasn't a minutes silence in the end

it was a Cock up all round but the Leeds fans were no more disrespectful than our lot

Think you'll find that other guy is actually right. They played the last post during the minutes silence. Birch said Paul would begin the minute with the last post. It just so happened the last post lasted the whole minute. No cock up at all.

"would you begin the minutes silence with it "...i take your point mate but all around me people stood waiting for the minutes silence straight after it , ...either way the Leeds fans did no wrong

Bingo.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Yeh especially when straight after that they started singing 'we're leeds utd we don't give a ****''

It's fair to say I lost it at the end of the game with a few of them. A copper overheard me and came over saying , 'i know son I know, but its done with now, just leave it'

So even in their view the Leeds fans were wrong.

Edit some of them redeemed themselves at HT getting Rule Britiannia going

This minutes silence/applaud thing is getting abit silly in my opinion( i except to be slated for this)

Dont get me wrong as im all for a minutes silence for rememberance day but thats what it should be.

Players round the circle, ref blows his whistle...ONE MINS SILENCE......Ref blows his whistle again...GAME ON!!

Seems clubs try and over elaborate on things hence confuse us simple footy fans...

As much as i hate Lids fans cant really blame a few for starting to clap when they THOUGHT it was all over

So it's not a silence then.

Last season there was the last post and then the silence, but it wasn't made clear and that was why it was a shambles.

But it's either a silence or it's not, if they actually changed it (and I was never aware that they did) then that is disrespectful in itself.

Why is it disrespectful that they changed it?

If you were paying attention you would've heard the PA bloke announce it more than once before the helicopter landed. He said 'there will be a period of silence during which the last post will be played'.

It's hardly rocket science as after he finished the ref didn't blow to start the minute like last year everyone just stood still and observed it.

I personnally feel they should scrap the horn man playing, just have the ref blow up to start the minute and blow to end it. Any numpty that can't obey that shouldn't be there.

At the WBA fixture there was shouting, Derby there was shouting and yesterday there was shouting during it. Can't the club see it doesn't work?

It's the CLUB that are fucking stupid.Did they REALLY think that, after last year, it would be observed correctly. There's always gonna be a few fuckwits who think that it's over when the horn stops, but it could have been made clearer.

As some of you may recall I emailed the club regarding this last week.

Here is the reply I received.

Hello Phil

Many thanks for your email to Fanzone and I apologise for not getting back to you sooner.

Despite numerous tannoy announcements last season, and Birch announcing it just prior to the commencement, that the minute's silence would be followed by the sounding of the Last Post, it was clear that not everyone took notice and therefore this year we were very conscious to doing things differently.

After discussions internally including the bugle player, Birch, the PA announcer and the RAF Co-Ordinator, and then on the day with the referee, it was agreed that the Last Post would be played at the same time as the period of silence by the crowd. Although we still had a very very small minority intent on spoiling it, we felt it did work better that way.

Your feedback on yesterday too would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Pat McConnell

I thought it would be a bit a bit disrespectful because the Last Post going first and then the silence is a nationwide tradition that's gone on for years, as far as I'm aware anyway. Why should it change for the football?

I just got in the ground when the helicopter landed, as would lots of people. I also often find it hard to hear the PA clearly from K block, when you've got away fans making noise and you are amongst fans making noise as well. So I wasn't aware of it being different this year.

Anyway, it's gone now, I amongst the majority observed the silence properly (if it was changed, and it appears that it was)

Fair play if you missed the announcements but it was still a mess. We don't need the last post before it at a match, that should be left for proper services at the cenotaph and village memorials.

If someone shouts out the best thing to do would be everyone stay quiet, he would soon shut up but football being football that never happens.

I for one thought the Leeds fans were far more obeyed than previous years attempts. Plus they clapped the Veterans and kids at half time.

Yeh maybe you're right. The important thing is that the silence is observed after all, even if things are done differently.

And yes it was a small minority that ruined it, Leeds and Leicester fans on the whole did it properly tbf.

A very, very final point on this subject. I believe Leicester is one of very few clubs to play the Last Post at all before the match, most clubs just have the minute's silence. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm quite sure I'm not.
