Danny the Fox 95 Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 When the one minute silence started which fans made the first noises couldn't see from where i was sitting but there was lots of shouting for a few seconds.
Jagdinho Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Its stupid. A leeds fans began to clap thinking it was over, then one person said shut up, then another will tell him to chut up, pathetic chain reaction off idiot telling each other to shut up.
Kitchandro Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 It wasn't as bad as last season, one Leeds fan started clapping and a few fans told him to shut up for about 5 seconds. Last season it went on for about 30 and involved quite a large number. Then again, It was a massive cock up in terms of the silence never actually taking place, there was just the Last Post and then everyone got it wrong again and started clapping.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Does it really matter? It's ridiculous that you can't have a well-observed minute's silence at a football match anymore. As disappointing as it might be I don't know why the club even bother trying to do it anymore, are we really at the stage where we have to have a minute's applause for certain events because there are idiots that can't stay silent for such a short period of time? A few Leeds fans started applauding when they thought the last post was over, hardly a disrespectful gesture is it?! And idiots in the Leicester end decided to jump on it. It seems every minute's silence is a chance for some of our lot to pounce upon the slightest bit of noise from the away end and label them scum just for the sake of a bit of aggro. Regardless of what others do, during a minute's silence you stay quiet. Make your point at the end but shouting "shut up" or shushing people makes you just as bad. If you're doing either of those things then you'd be too stupid to see that anyway.

Well last season it was the other way around, a coupe of Leicester fans got the wrong end of the stick and a lot more Derby fans started saying shut up. So it's not just us. And whilst telling other people to shut up is stupid, it's no more disrespectful than clapping during the silence. In fact it's a sign of anti-disrespect even if it doesn't come out that way.

Clapping is a gesture of approval, no disrespect was meant. People shouting things are being intentionally disruptive.

Clapping is a gesture of approval, no disrespect was meant. People shouting things are being intentionally disruptive. But you just said: Any intentional noise during it is disrespectful to the silence. Is clapping not intentional then? It's a silence, there should be no clapping! And as if people are being intentionally disruptive No, people aren't like that. People are thick, they are not intentionally disrespectful of war heroes. Unless you can prove otherwise?
Stand UP... Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Its stupid. A leeds fans began to clap thinking it was over, then one person said shut up, then another will tell him to chut up, pathetic chain reaction off idiot telling each other to shut up. exactly what happended.....SCUM
Kitchandro Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 The announcement was that the last post would be played DURING the minute silence. So it's not a silence then. Last season there was the last post and then the silence, but it wasn't made clear and that was why it was a shambles. But it's either a silence or it's not, if they actually changed it (and I was never aware that they did) then that is disrespectful in itself.
Walkers Pallet Chauffeur Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 One thing I did like was that wen the veterans walked around the pitch at HT, the Leeds fans were clapping as well and it was most of them. That was nice and respectful.
Yojoe36 Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 I love how the shouting ended. "willy puller!!" Then everyone goes silent. WTF? Next year, we should just have 1 minute silence. People are too thick to listen
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 But you just said: Is clapping not intentional then? It's a silence, there should be no clapping! And as if people are being intentionally disruptive No, people aren't like that. People are thick, they are not intentionally disrespectful of war heroes. Unless you can prove otherwise? The point I was making was that the clapping wasn't intended to be disrespectful or disruptive. It's someone making a mistake thinking that the silence is over. If you're shouting at other people to shut up for making noise during the silence then you yourself are doing the very same thing with no productive/positive intent. Had the whole stadium burst into applause at the same time would everyone be moaning that it's a silence and there shouldn't be any clapping? No. Because it's a positive, supportive act. Individuals shouting at each other is not such an act and is in itself disruptive. But like I said earlier, you're not going to get a perfectly observed minute's silence at a football ground these days it seems. People are either too ignorant, thick or both to be able to adhere to it. It's like being in a school assembly the majority of times...
acooling08 Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 It's the CLUB that are fucking stupid. Did they REALLY think that, after last year, it would be observed correctly. There's always gonna be a few fuckwits who think that it's over when the horn stops, but it could have been made clearer.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Im still unclear... When the horn stopped the players walked away and the chants began, But the referee went mental and started blowing his whistle? Then when he noticed it was too late he just carried on... Anyone else see this?
Bert Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Gonna stick up for the Leeds fans here, they thought it was finished otherwise they observed perfectly. Massive over reaction.

People are either too ignorant, thick or both to be able to adhere to it. It's like being in a school assembly the majority of times... Well, that did happen, and yes, there were some people complaining near me that the actual silence wasn't observed at all. I expect there were a number of people there today who had relatives who fought/died in the war, perhaps that is where the angry 'shut up's came from, but to say there was no positive intent is a pretty serious accusation. What are you saying, that people get such immense pleasure out of telling people to shut up that they do it during a minute 'silence'? Or they were just doing it for a laugh? I'm sorry but that's absolute bull, people would obviously been appalled at the clapping and not necessarily aware/bothered whether it was an accident or not. It seemed to me to be the natural reaction of people trying to observe a silence and expecting a silence. I'm not saying it was constructive, clever or even acceptable, but you can't convince me that you actually think people are purposefully disrespectful or tell people to shut up during a minute 'silence' because they get some sort of enjoyment out of it. And btw, how could anyone possibly think it's over when the bloke is still playing the music? It's not like he ever broke for over half a second.
Kitchandro Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Im still unclear... When the horn stopped the players walked away and the chants began, But the referee went mental and started blowing his whistle? Then when he noticed it was too late he just carried on... Anyone else see this? That's what I thought too. I don't for one second believe that they changed it so that there was no actual silence. It's a tradition that goes up and down the country and has done for years and years.
poggypogpog Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 In my opinion, even if there was a mishap with the actual silence, the whole ground more than made up for it at half time. The reception the veterans and others got was amazing. Especially when the chorus of Rule Britania was sung out!
Number 6 Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 All this discussion jost proves that it wasn't clear. Scrap the horn and just have the minute silence. Simple. Also think Leeds fans were pretty respectful to everything today. People hating just because they want to.
berniethebolt Posted 7 November 2011 Posted 7 November 2011 Gonna stick up for the Leeds fans here, they thought it was finished otherwise they observed perfectly. Massive over reaction. I know what your saying bert but the fa should do away with the traditional 1 minute science and make us all applause their lives and efforts. I lost my ww2 grandfather last month at 102 years so this was a poignant moment for me.... I sorry but people can't even stay silent for 60 seconds then it's a poor effort. They did a minutes applause at his funeral and i filled me with pride.
berniethebolt Posted 7 November 2011 Posted 7 November 2011 One minute of science is a massive ask... Obviously a minutes silence!
Fox92 Posted 7 November 2011 Posted 7 November 2011 There is always little talking going on. But I don't care because I respect the silence myself regardless of what other fans do. Massive respect for our veterans... they are 100x more heroric than the 22 players on the pitch.
tomtom Posted 7 November 2011 Posted 7 November 2011 The announcement was that the last post would be played DURING the minute silence. No it wasn't !! the last post was to be played prior to the minutes silence as it is in the armed forces , hence there wasn't a minutes silence in the end it was a Cock up all round but the Leeds fans were no more disrespectful than our lot
Head Honcho Posted 7 November 2011 Posted 7 November 2011 Gonna stick up for the Leeds fans here, they thought it was finished otherwise they observed perfectly. Massive over reaction. Bingo. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.
