Simo86 Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 Seedings We could potentially be in a group consisting of Spain, Portugal and France! Lets hope we get Poland, Greece and Denmark/Czech Republic!

I hope for England too But even though I understand the coefficient system, that seeding mechanism is so flawed. We've won our last two qualification groups and are ranked 10th, yet Portugal who qualified through the POs are seeded ahead of us while Norway, who only finished third and haven't qualified for anything since Euro 2000 were TOP SEEDED for the 2014 groups. Surely the timing of these seedings/draws are all wrong

How Sweden and Portugal are above Denmark in the Euro 2012 seedings is beyond me. Both of them finished 2nd in their groups!!
Jimothy Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 I've seen a few news reports stating the best case scenario would be to get Denmark from pot 4. I don't get it. I know the ranking system is great, but they're ranked 10th in the world, won they're qualifying group which included Portugal. They shouldn't be in pot 4 and group with them in won't be easy. I'd much rather get the Czechs or the Irish.

They've won friendlies against Slovakia (a), Montenegro (h), France (h), Ireland (a), Lithuania (h) and the Czech Rep (h), but have lost to Ukraine (h), Croatia (a) and Poland (a). I remember they won against Germany too a while back. Wouldn't call any of those shit teams apart from maybe Lithuania. They're certainly on par with or better than Norway anyway. I guess my point is that timing of the draws is way too important a factor in the seedings as it is now.

I'd much rather get the Czechs or the Irish. For the second consecutive time as well. I'm being quietly optimistic about our chances next year. If we can avoid injuries, we'll be as solid as ever and with the added flair from Eriksen we can upset some odds. I've just read about the UEFA coefficients, which are very different from the FIFA ones. Hence I got confused about the seeding system here. This is then unrelated to the FIFA top seeding given to Norway for the WC 2014 qualis. UEFA don't weigh the ranking into the points system, i.e. when Portugal beat a minnow, they get the same amount of points as e.g. when a minnow beats Spain, which gives a ridiculous bias to the top nations, not to mention that the playoffs give bonus points (wait what?!), but there you go...
whoareyaaa Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 its just fixed so England get no chance. cuz Seth FATTER hates us like everyone else.
Finnegan Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Wales 4 1 Norway. That ends that argument - they MUST be shit.

Guest shearfox Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Doesn't matter what pot your in, you could end up in a very very tough group... Best thing that could happen is to avoid Spain and Holland from pot 1
shen Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Doesn't matter what pot your in, you could end up in a very very tough group... Best thing that could happen is to avoid Spain and Holland from pot 1 And Germany from pot 2, although this doesn't apply to England. At least the other two have been beatable lately...
