RumbleFox Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 Really interesting article here: http://www.sabotagetimes.com/football-sport/when-we-were-good-leicester-citys-finest-ever-game-march-2000/ I have to say I agree with the author. I was at that game and honestly thought we were on the verge of something even greater than we had already achieved. We all know what happened after this and I don't want to dwell on that I just thought it was a nice reminder of better days and maybe something we can match or even surpass soon. I have real faith in Nigel! Come on Leicester, you can be great again!! X
Corky Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 My abiding memory of that game (apart from Stanloy's volley and missing Emile's goal) was Big Matt Elliott marking little Kevin Phillips and leaving little Frank Sinclair to occupy Massive Niall Quinn. Boring, predictable Leicester? Fack awf.
ajthefox Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 I am having a bad day and reading that just made it a little bit worse.
Leicester Bob Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 Small point of order, the sunderland game wasn't Collymore's debut, he played away at Watford and hit the bar/post if I remember right. cracking article none the less.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 We all knew that losing Martin was going to herald the start of a decline. I doubt anyone knew the size of the decline though. I think it's easy to blame Peter Taylor.. Yes he signed some duffers but I, for one, though that Akinbiyi for instance was gonna do well at City. I simply think that MON was just too big an act to follow.

OzFox Posted 23 November 2011 Posted 23 November 2011 Good read. I remember going to the game against Wimbledon a week later. Heskey had gone, there was a feeling of gloom over the team (and fans), we played crap and lost 2-1. Shocking performance compared to the Sunderland match. I always think of that Wimbledon result as the beginning of the end, despite the brief flurry under Taylor

I always think of that Wimbledon result as the beginning of the end, despite the brief flurry under Taylor I was at the game and I agree, our fans were so quiet it's like we were in mourning. Still think we had peaked then, it was great but the side wasn't going to break into the top 3 or anything like that. No one was going to be able to follow what MON did.
