Simo86 Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 I have seen Wellens shoot, and score, from 20 yards against Southampton, from 25 against Doncaster. But to be fair he only shoots when he's confident he'll score, and I'm not gonna argue with that. I don't get all of this criticism for his "hollywood passes", they're often a source of goals, if only 1 in 5 of them work and he tries 5 a game..... I'll give him that, but as I say, he shoots when he feels its right to. If he had a shot like Gally, he would shoot more often but he doesn't so he passes it. As for his hollywood passes, when he on his game he pings the ball all over the place to peoples feet and its great to watch, but last night they weren't coming off. That said, everyone is allowed an off day, he still plugged away and contributed to the 2nd goal.
Dan Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Which is fair enough, I think as a player you've got to accept your weaknesses and play to your strengths, which is something I feel he does by limiting his shots and increasing his number of passes. There you go though, whilst a lot of his passes may not have come off, one of them has and it's lead to a goal, and that's exactly why I'd have him there. King's the sort of player who's reliable but won't take risks, Wellens is less reliable but can win you games, I think the two together is spot on.
nuttytimmy Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Sounds good to me. Conclusions are a little late I'm afraid.
Burmesefox Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Wellens has the bollocks to try and fail - not everything he does comes off but he always puts a shift in. Criticising him for not shooting is total wank. I hear people round me screaming for him and others to shoot when it is so obvious that the shot will be blocked or the ball is under their feet. In order to shoot from long range you need direction plus power/speed and/or movement/curl of the ball - you cannot do that when the ball is under your feet so you have to make space which takes a split second and gives the defenders time to come out to you so then often you have to opt to pass. Blackpool had a quick midfield and they were well organised so it bedcame hard for us to shoot so we sprayed the ball around. Us fans need more patience.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Thracian Dyer 9 (Man of the match with two precision passes to create our goals. Was a source of danger both out wide and through the middle when Beckford went off. Might well have scored hmself had he had a crack from an angle instead of electing to pass to Howard. Worked back too when he or the team lost possession and was genuinely all-in at the finish having lasted longer than i expected. Quality contribution). Rose tinted specs again methinks matee ! Lloyd did really well second half thankfully .....and of course finally held his man off to feed Kingy through after doing virtually nothing for the 35 mins leading up until that.A nice little layoff to Danns for the second goal after receiving the best pass of the match from Wellens !!!
