Absolutelegend..... So your another expert on sports radio commentary, bet you have spent many hours behind a 'mic' and talking absolute wonderful stuff, oh i forgot, you must have because you call yourself an absolutelegend...

And before you make more snide comments i have spent many hours behind a 'mic' on radio.... ;0)

Absolutelegend doesn't claim to be an expert on sports radio commentary; nor should he be. He is someone who pays good money for a service - a decent commentary of the game - and expects that the people who receive money to provide that service do it in a professional way. Stringer and Young don't seem to understand that those listening can't see the action and want to be informed what is happening on the pitch.

When listening to an 'Away' game, I am often bemused by the relevance of the comment that the Foxes are attacking the goal 'to our left'. Considering that 'away' fans are usually obliged to be seated behind the goal, wouln't it be more appropriate to say attacking the goal in front of the Foxes fans or the converse.

I don't mind him doing the commentary, him and Ian as a team are fine to listen to. I'd never prefer to just check the score at the end of the game, as I'd spend the previous two hours wondering and worrying about the score.

He really can grate during the phone ins though. There are some idiots which phone in and I don't mind him cutting them off when they're talking crap, but when someone is making a valid point it's infuriating to listen to him cut them off and say his own opinion instead. Fans only have a limited time so you may as well let them make their whole point (unless, as I said, they're talking rubbish.) The wingers argument is the best example of this. So badly handled by Young it was ridiculous.

I miss Nev.

RL missed a trick with Nev. When his commentary became, erm, not as good as it used to be, they should've kept him on as a pundit because he has a deep knowledge of the game.

Re: what was said about 'be careful what you wish for', there are some genuinely awful local radio commentators and summarisers out there. Of course, there are some who are better and more knowledgeable than Ian and Alan.

Would you prefer Kenyon or Barber over these two? No, thought not.

Great thread though.

Also Bruno Berner was co-commentator on the Sweden and Austria tour, he talks sense. Tbh I'd rather have Bernie :lei1: co-commentate than Alan young the big scottish ****!!!

My earliest memories of Leicester are listening to Neville commentating on us. I too miss him :(

I just hate how much of the game we miss because of their incessant commenting on what's going on around them.

I think if you were to do a comparative discourse analysis between RL commentary and the commentary on 5live for example you would find that our guys actually spend considerably more time talking about the game in front of them than the others.

(Might not hold if 5live are covering United/Chelsea or something but I'm very confident that it would on games of a similar magnitude)

Personally I like Alan Young, despite the fact that I disagree with many of his opinions. Stringer has won me over too. I'm finding it impossible not to like somebody who constantly wears his considerable love for the club on his sleeve and his banter with Pearson is actually OK!

Driving home from today's game it really stood out for me how Alan Young seemed to be trying to stick up for certain players in the face of the facts.

He was insistent that Beckford had put in a good performance today when he plainly did'nt, and went on to suggest that Mill's abject performances at the back were the fault of Bamba.

If you listen to the Radio Leicester commentary rather than go to the games please don't take his opinions as gospel, to me he seems to have an agenda to protect certain players from criticism and his comments do not accurately reflect what actually goes on in games.

Alan Young and the other guy on the radio must have been watching something else. to say Beckford had a stunning game. what the **** was he watching or was he in scotland listening to ian stringer. cuz honestly Beckford was appalling. APPALLING.
