Webbo Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I just hate how much of the game we miss because of their incessant commenting on what's going on around them. Radio's not like TV they have to fill the void when nothing's happening, if they said nothing you'd think your radio was bust. He's a very annoying person. What's that like?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Bring back Neville Foulger. Young is shite! I miss Nev.
MC Prussian Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Alan Young's alright on matchdays. He does grind my gears though when cutting other people off during the Phone-In, he's gotten worse in recent weeks.
dobbylcfc Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I agree about Young, he's let himself down in recent weeks with some of his comments. I also notice on the way home from games and on a Monday night it's almost always the same retards phoning up.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I've given up listening to the tripe sprouted from them, Ashley young
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 He's a complete bellend, thought he was good when he first joined Radio Leicester, his knowledge about football is so bad! He knows less than the guy I sit near and he has downsyndrome
Gold Coast Fox Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I completely respect local radio for providing full commentary, interviews and coverage of all things Leicester City which we just wouldn't get outside the prem. The coverage is decent and interviews not bad however the game commentary and Young's punditry is woeful. Glad I don't often have to listen. ^ This
steveherbe Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Well, fine. But surely if he's a paid commentator now, it's part of his job to have at least a working knowledge of the recent history of the club, so shouldn't he read up on it? For me, the worst thing about the coverage provided by Radio Leicester is how utterly partial and sycophantic it is. I mean, a few weeks ago they had Gallagher in the commentary box with them (can't remember which game it was, but it was an away game towards the end of Sven's reign, and he hadn't been picked for the match squad). I mean, how were they ever going to provide unbiased opinions on the game with a colleague (and friend) of the players sitting next to them? It was the Millwall home game, I had a right rant about my new friend Ian to BBC Radio Leicester at the time, and received a nice reply from Mr Stringer himself.

This is the point of local radio - they root for and support your local team. If you're not into that, then listen to 5Live or Talksport (national stations) instead!
MrFox781 Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I think we need to get something sorted out. he has said previously that he does not call wingers wingers but calls them left/right midfielders. so next time you call in and say we need to play wingers say we need to play left/right midfielders and he may agree with you because in his days wingers may have been something completely different to what they are called now.
absolutelegend Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 This is the point of local radio - they root for and support your local team. I also expect them to have more knowledge of my local team than the average fan on the street. Young doesn't. If you named 50 players from the past 10 years, young wouldn't know 45 of them. It's embarrassing.
allotment-fox Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Ok if you ask me we as football ( City ) fans listen to the dribble spouted on the media in all of it's forms and get a bad deal out of it Alan Young is getting stale, time for a change if you ask me a younger person fresh out of the game is needed liked to hear what Mat Piper hand to say and the passion from Steve Walsh, so come on BBC change it about a bit give our ears break
allotment-fox Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 lets hope he goes in the BBC forthcoming Tory cuts
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 On the phone-ins both Young and Stringer seem rude and dismissive because they have to deal with the amount of tools phoning in For example after the Hull game one caller claimed Matt Mills was "Useless waste of space, only hear for the money etc" basing his opinion on the handfull of games either seen on the T.V or the occasional home game. I, for one, would get frustrated with the amount of numptys that call in so I think its a fairly tough job to do.
easilee Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I like the commentary. It's a bit like a straight guy/fall guy comedy act depending on your tolerance level. The more clueless he is the funnier I find it.
StarFox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Alan Young is a t0$$£r, his opinions are not worth registering he spouts absolute drivel, what views he does have no bearing on the modern game and a lot of the time have no actual relevance to what is happening at Leicester City FC. Personally I can't stand Ian Stringer either, which makes me glad I'm a season ticket holder, when we are away I can only flick to Radio Leicester long enough to find out the score and then that's it I switch back off, I prefer soccer saturday or final score, than listening to the awful commentary on RL. I would welcome both being replaced although stringer might be better if he had a Muzzy Izzet, Steve Walsh or Ali Mauchlen alongside him. At the very least, Alan Young is a supporter of Leicester City and is therefore one of us. So I think you should show a bit more respect
Simo86 Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 At the very least, Alan Young is a supporter of Leicester City and is therefore one of us. So I think you should show a bit more respect You can hardly call him a supporter. He's only been following us since he's been commentating. He said when Pearson got re-appointed that he didn't follow us when he was last in charge but it seems to be a popular decision amongst the fans.
liamsm Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Stop being so negative. I think both Alan Young and Ian Stringer are great on the Radio. Some people are so easy to please, or don't you listen to Youngs match commentary?
liamsm Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Well I tell you what, I'd rather listen to them any day than read some of the comments on here. Off you go then
hairy Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 I agree, he is starting to grate. I listen on most away match days to hear commentry on the match not Young's non related drivel.
Guest MattP Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 He's better than anything we have had in the last few years. Remember listening to Matt Piper's hopeless attempts at trying to string a sentence together or Steve Walsh telling us what him and Taggs used to do and why he's the greatest manager we never had? Young isn't perfect, but be careful what you wish for.

NewquayFox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Only heard Alan Young commentate a couple of times and he comes actoss as very passionate about City and that will do for me, unlike when i had to endure Scowcroft on BBC London, now he was a proper twat. ;0) Keep going Youngy and its a shame that some of the posters on here show no respect for ex City players. ;0(
absolutelegend Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Keep going Youngy and its a shame that some of the posters on here show no respect for ex City players. ;0( yawn its not about respect - i am sure he is respected for being an ex city player. it's about whether he is a well informed and insightful pundit. i don't believe he is.
NewquayFox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Absolutelegend..... So your another expert on sports radio commentary, bet you have spent many hours behind a 'mic' and talking absolute wonderful stuff, oh i forgot, you must have because you call yourself an absolutelegend... And before you make more snide comments i have spent many hours behind a 'mic' on radio.... ;0)
