Freeman's Wharfer Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Is it just me or is Alan Young really starting to grate on anyone else?! When he first started I thought he was a breath of fresh air, offering insightful, reasoned opinions. Listening to the phone-in tonight however I think I reached a turning point with him. All he seems to do now is shoot down others opinions and cut people short when they're trying to make a point. Too many times do I hear him butting in, telling people: "you're wrong". Throw in his love affair with Paul Gallagher and 'Big Stevie Howard', or 'Big Frankie', and you have one massive hypocrite, willing to brand other people's opinions nonsense when in reality they are no less valuable than his own. Here is a guy who claims no-one in the Premiership plays with wingers, that Yakubu is worthless and that an ageing, one-dimensional Howard is the answer to a promotion-aspiring Championship team. And he's supposed to be offering expert analysis?! Yes he's won a few hearts by speaking passionately and claiming Leicester is his club but the guy shows such an evident lack of Leicester-related knowledge for any time pre-last season that it's embarassing. I know we've hardly been spoilt on BBC Radio Leicester with the likes of Barber and Piper but this guy's reached the end of his shelf life now too. People criticise Stringer for perhaps being a little too enthusiastic, and sometimes his "top fella"s and penchant for cliches annoy me too, but at least he's genuinely a Leicester lad, clearly loving his job, who has an actual working knowledge of periods at the club preceding the time he was being paid to waffle into a microphone. Thoughts?
Ozwin Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 I can't listen to the radio anymore come matchdays. I'd rather just wait until 5pm and look up the score.
cairnsy Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 I've given up listening to the tripe sprouted from them, especially Ashley young (see what I did there). The way he dismisses some callers despite them speaking sense sometimes is disgraceful. One that springs to mind is the the wingers argument, just embarrassing.
BrummieFOX Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 I completely respect local radio for providing full commentary, interviews and coverage of all things Leicester City which we just wouldn't get outside the prem. The coverage is decent and interviews not bad however the game commentary and Young's punditry is woeful. Glad I don't often have to listen.
lcfcsnow Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Made me laugh earlier on the moan in when he was asked about Yakubu's 4 goals he simply responded claiming that Yakubu had no involvement in the build up of any of his goals. Well I suggest you watch the first goal Alan for starters.
Corky Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Made me laugh earlier on the moan in when he was asked about Yakubu's 4 goals he simply responded claiming that Yakubu had no involvement in the build up of any of his goals. Well I suggest you watch the first goal Alan for starters. Why does that matter anyway? He put the ball in the net four times, more than did his job.

Well I suggest you watch the first goal Alan for starters. Why does that matter anyway? He put the ball in the net four times, more than did his job. Exactly! That was one of the things that really took the biscuit. The guy scored 4 goals, has been a great signing for Blackburn, scored a very good amount for us, yet Alan Young still thinks he's right on that one. So much so that he'll try and justify it with some ludicrous tripe about build-up play. Come off it Alan...
Tuna Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Youngy's a loudmouthed dinosaur, well past his sell by date. Frankly some of his comments are embarrassing.
z-layrex Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I just hate how much of the game we miss because of their incessant commenting on what's going on around them. I think they should both be fired and a couple of professional commentators employed.
STUHILL Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Didn't they used to rotate the guest?? I think there should be a handful they use throughout the season, rather than just the same each week. I think like others, nice change when he started but now starting to get bit old and needs a break. Mix it up please radio Leicester!!
Kitchandro Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Completely agree. Also thought he was really good when he first started doing it, but he's got so miserable and dismissive. His favourites and least-favourites are really obvious and around the time of Sven's sacking he wouldn't accept any criticism of him, insisting that there was no logic whatsoever in sacking him, and offered no reasoned and sensible comments to argue against the suggestion. On the way home from the Blackpool game he was praising Pearson for fundamental and basic things that he'd noticed were different since he'd been here, despite the fact a month ago he thought Sven was doing a very good job and didn't deserve any stick. He seems to be one of those ex-players who will always back the current manager as if he is still playing for him, even when some things are indefensible. Definitely fed up with him now, he occassionally says something hilarious but I'm glad I don't have to hear every game on the radio because it would drive me mad. I miss Sincy tbh, he and Stringer were a good double act. Alternatively there must be some ex-City players who know something about football and can offer opinions without bias (except a little bit towards Leicester)?
Thracian Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I just hate how much of the game we miss because of their incessant commenting on what's going on around them. I This. And it's not as if they're being genuinely analytical or inputting anything of genuine interest. It's more "Well, Alan, surely the letter of the law says he should have been booked and three weeks ago in a match against us such and such was booked for something almost exactly similar and, .oh, Gallagher's just hit the bar, hold on, we'll have another look and let you know how it happened! .

Thoughts? perfectly put. also, i not sure how we managed to find an "expert pundit" that has clearly never seen leicester city play in the ten years+ prior to getting the job on radio leicester. the number of times i've heard him say that he hadn't see a Pearson side play before etc. shock me. pull any city fan in off the street and they would offer better and more informed insight. i too quite like stringer, although slightly annoying generally well informed and amusing.
acooling08 Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I like Young. He does talk a lot of sense usually, although when he gets worked up he occasionally sprouts a lot of shite.
Dan Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 He is getting worse. Started off well but makes some fvcking daft comments now and then. He's not all bad though.
Finnegan Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 To be fair, our defence has been much tighter since we signed Sol Campbell.
MikeyT Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 He's better than Matt Piper. That's all I'll say.
Mack Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I agree about Young, he's let himself down in recent weeks with some of his comments. I also notice on the way home from games and on a Monday night it's almost always the same people phoning up.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Don't think I've listened to the pair of em for weeks.. Young has proven to be a total hypocrite with many of his comments. And stringer is a little cock head.

flowwolf Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Quite liked Youngy when he first started but his personal criticism of players and tactics are starting to grate. His personal dislike for Yakubu is embarrassing, Yakubu is twice the player he ever was and will score plenty in the prem which is more than he did in the old first division. Youngy was a good second division striker but could not do it at the top level hence the straight back down relegation and no big club went after him. I am old enough to have seen him play and believe me he talks a good game but never played as good himself.
liamsm Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Young is that out of date if he was at Tesco they would have put him in the bin weeks ago
