How Times Have Changed From 1993-94

I was just reading the lucky boxing day thread below....and It took me back to one of the coldest days I recall at filbert street!!

It was the boxing day fixture of 93/94 but due to the way the days fell it was on the 27th! And im sure it was an 11.30 am KO.

A home tie to watford....I remember being in the old Kop freezing my nuts off!!

The terraces were lethal....and the pitch like concrete lol It was even touch and go I think...but the crowd were baying for a game!!

Could you imagine playing in those conditions today...just wouldnt happen!!

The score on the day was 4-4 And if memory serves me I think we were 4-1 down at one point...with maybe the mighty "sticks" scoring the equaliser!! (showing my age...bet most wouldnt know who sticks was) lol

Just goes to show eh....it used to be a mans game :crylaugh:

Oh the memories.....................

What a game it was. Ice cold and a good crowd as I recall.

Ormondroyd was a hero in his day, like a clumsier Peter Crouch.

Testing my memory this but was that the game where on one of their goals at the kope end Poole just caught the ball and backpeddled into his own net and instead of throwing it over the ball so just dropped it on the line for their striker to knock in?

I wish we had the 11.30 kick offs back, generated a sensational atmosphere and the place always seemed to be full.

But then I'd have to be up at 9:30 on a Saturday.

You would need to be at the pub by 8am for pre match drinks.

Not a problem, I remember about 6/7 of us downing shots at about 7am in the morning a few years back for the Leeds away game on boxing day.

Bruce Dyer scored the equaliser!

I remember having the end of season DVD..

"He's done it, oooohhh my goodness me, Bruce Dyer!"

The end of season videos back then were superb, far superior to what we have now (although they didn't show all the opposition goals, which seems a bit pointless).

And it would adversely affect the atmosphere.

That's the strange thing, back then for some reason it didn't. Can't put my finger on it why but often at Filbo the 11.30am KO on boxing day was louder than the 3pm Saturday games.

Having said that making a noise was encouraged at the footy back then.

It was Gavin Ward in goal that day. There was even a little bit of scuffling in the Watford section as they had only sold a couple of hundred tickets so half the section for away fans was then sold on to Leicester fans.

Gavin Ward mad some unbelievable stops but was prone to persistent **** ups too. I think Bruce Dyer scored a hat trick for them that day too.

I remember that Watford game on Boxing Day 1993 well, mind you, I was 25 back then so should do! It was a "to in and fro ing" like game alright! I think most of the goals were scored in the first half but I think Watford equalised very late on for 4-4 (Bruce Dyer), I refuse to look the game up on line or on video so am only going by what's said here...............and er, guessing! Ormondryod (Sticks) up front definitely scored and I think David Oldfield (Skippy) got a couple of humdingers I think - while Gavin Ward (a less clumsy version of Spider Kalac!!) was in goal definitely. The game probably also figured big Iwan Roberts......against his former club......perhaps "Speedie" too but I don't recall him playing in that game....! Gary Coatsworth, Lee Philpot, David Lowe, Simon Grayson, Mike Whitlow, Walshy - seemless!!!

Agreed  Music was so much more groovy and it didn't seem like they'd rushed the whole thing ike the new ones do. Commentators were far more passionate and entertaining as well. The new ones are boring and cheesy, some of the interviews with fans are cringey.

I have the one for that season, and to clear it up we were ahead 3 times in this game but they then went 4-3 up and Ormondroyd equalised in the last minute.
