ScouseFox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 That's what I said to my mum, the fact she left the car unlocked meant it didn't get smashed, and the fact all they could rob was literally rubbish, pretty lucky really. Nice chaps.

Head Honcho Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 My Parent's house got done over at the weekend, Seemed a fairly professional job, came without tools, stole some hedgeloppers from a neighbours shed, smashed in the window and were in, they wore gloves and even cleaned up some of the muddy foot prints after themselves. Found the car keys and nicked off with the car, telly and a few valuable items on display easy to find. Basically just a warning, it has been on the increase in Leicestershire, don't leave your car keys lying around when you are not in the house, even if only out for the day take them with you and keep spares somewhere safe, they came around 6pm, so it was dark but hardly late, they were in the house for probably less than 10 minutes, didn't ransack it but took what they could sell, so Gold Jewellery, TV, laptop, Digital cameras. Obviously you can't hide the TV but everything else could have been put away more securely and we may still have them especially the car keys. Just a heads up really, they have been hitting all over Leicester police believe it to be the same gang. Hope it doesn't happen to any of you lot. Maybe it was a couple of scroungers on a suspended sentence
AyewJoking Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Does anyone actually call the police when they hear an alarm? It's usually a false alarm (no pun intended) and people seem to ignore them when they hear them! Thieves are cowards who like to "work" in the knowledge no one knows what they're doing. Therefore an alarm will scare them off even if everyone else ignores it.

Captain... Posted 13 January 2012 Author Posted 13 January 2012 Maybe it was a couple of scroungers on a suspended sentence Just because I have recently been a victim of crime does not change my liberal stand point to harsh sentencing and imprisonment for minor offences such as benefit fraud. In fact they are more likely to be "career criminals", one's who have gone to prison and come out with no prospects at all, and after a spell inside they have become more adept criminals with further contacts to criminal elements in the area. Not my opinion what the police detective told us.

It is usually interconnected to a whole lot of unhappy and far-reaching consequences as I've learned first hand.

Relates back to another thread, where I disagreed that people who had committed benefit fraud should have been given harsher/custodial sentences. Maybe it is not a minor crime, but benefit cheats are not a danger to society and so I don't see them as needing to go to prison at further cost to the tax payers.
Youngtillidie Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 To all thoose worried about Alarms suggest you check out a bargain system available through most Electrical wholesalers / etc. Yale HSA6400 / HSA6500 Intruder Alarm System's which is a wireless system, so can be installed by most DIY savey people out there. No need to rip your house apart to fit it, as the detectors have transmiter / recievers built in. Saves running cables to and from the main keypad panel. Also has advantage you can purchase petsmart detectors, which allow you to set sytem to work even when pets left in the home. You can add additinal wirefree keypads i.e extra keypad for exiting back door. Additional live bell boxes, to advertise you have a live sytem to the rear of your property. Detectors powered by AA type batteries last approx 2 / 3 years , before replacing , Also allows smoke detectors on the system if required. Expect to pay about £250 - £300 for complete system, but this includes a speech dialer in the panel so it can be programmed ( easily ) to ring 4 consecutive telephone numbers in event of alarm being triggered. The house holder in normal circumstances or friends / family living locally to you say when you go on holiday. Will ring mobile no's at normally rate, as you connect the panel to BT socket via normal BT extension lead. Bell box outside has good visable strobe, so would be intruder at least sees, some security measures have been taken, and in most cases then look elsewhere , further up the street for the unprotected property. Personaly had such sytem in my own house for over 10 years now, and would go as far as saying the best £250 ever spent, as piece of mind, when at work or on holiday. £250 is less than the price of a cheap laptop, and most house insurance companies will discount your premium, when you tell them a system is installed. Can forward more details to anyone who is interested or has specific questions, feel free to drop me a message.
