Webbo Posted 20 January 2012 Posted 20 January 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk...merica-16624823 Beer must be sold at all venues hosting matches in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, football's world governing body, Fifa, has insisted. Fifa General Secretary Jerome Valcke said the right to sell beer must be enshrined in a World Cup law the Brazilian Congress is considering. Alcoholic drinks are currently banned at Brazilian stadiums and the country's health minister has urged Congress to maintain the ban in the new law. Brewer Budweiser is a big Fifa sponsor. Mr Valcke is visiting Brazil to press for progress on the much-delayed World Cup law.
Webbo Posted 20 January 2012 Author Posted 20 January 2012 Will the same apply to Qatar? That's a very good point.
I am Rod Hull Posted 20 January 2012 Posted 20 January 2012 FIFA could get condom machines installed in the Vatican if Durex wafted a few quid under their fat piggy noses.....
21st Century Fox Posted 20 January 2012 Posted 20 January 2012 When they say 'beer' they exclusively mean Budweiser.
Finnegan Posted 21 January 2012 Posted 21 January 2012 I think this is bullshit, to be honest. Surely the whole point of moving the World Cup around the, yknow, world is so that each and every culture gets to put it's own stamp on the tournament? You can't take it to a country where alcohol is banned in the grounds and THEN decide it's a problem. Absolutely mad.

As annoying as the vuvuzelas were in 2010, and as much as I'd have felt an overwhelming desire to insert one into the rectum of anyone blowing one at the KP, I was uncomfortable with the idea of banning the things because they were part of South Africa's interpretation of terrace culture. The point about alcohol at football grounds is that it's only really considered part of the culture in a few countries in Europe, but by no means all. It'd be anathema in Qatar especially and FIFA should have thought about before taking backhanders deciding Qatar was the best place for WC2022. Let's be honest here about Brazil. For many of the high profile games, you'd be in fvcking Rio! It's hardly the most difficult place to find a watering hole pre-match.

In Rustenburg 2010 there was nothing near the ground, a few house around and all the house cooked a bbq and sold beer in their front lawn it was awesome. Inside the ground and around the ground but inside the fenceline you could buy as many beers as you wanted if you were prepared to queue. For instance we would buy 6 each and leave them under our seat to save lining up.
