Ozwin Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I've got one and it's been like it since at least November. Basically I can run, walk, play football etc fine but when I sit down and then stand up/push off I get this horrible pain behind the knee. I have no idea what it could be, it feels like a tendon/muscle pain because it only happens when I extend the leg after it's been bent/crossed for a while. It's starting to annoy me now though and I'm thinking of going to the docs and get it checked out. Not that they'll do anything. Just wondering what it could be really. Can't be a lot going on behind the knee can there?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 http://www.hughston....ha/a_13_4_4.htm Had this where it was sort of sore to run but when ever i jumped or straightened the knee in that motion it hurt. Also fractured my knee cap playing Aussie rules footy, did hurt a little but managed to make it back to play in my Tennis GF 2 weeks later.
Bluefoxtim Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I had knee pain 2 years ago, although unlike you, it started hurting whenever I started exercising for prolonged periods. After about 2 months I went to the doctor (twice), a private physio, a NHS physio (three times), NHS knee specialist and finally a 'sports injury specialist' who sold me some orthotics for about £200. In the end, I just sat on my arse for 3 months and then slowly built my fitness back up and the problem hasn't returned. My GP didn't know his arse from his elbow and the people I was seeing in the hospital all disagreed with each other over what the problem was. Wasted so much time, money and effort! Having said all that, you should probably go to the doctor! Or at least try some knee strengthening exercises? Plenty on the web.
Ozwin Posted 24 January 2012 Author Posted 24 January 2012 Thing is it's behind the knee, so not really the knee at all. It probably has a proper term but it's the armpit of the leg haha. Not very easy to look into online.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Physio mate - knee injuries of any sort can fvck you up if not treated properly - surprisingly, because it only bends in one direction, the knee is the most complicated joint in the whole body. Seriously, as well meaning as people are on here, a foxestalk diagnosis probably has a 9.9/10 chance of being totally wrong. Yes a physio will probably set you back £40 but you will get the right treatment and right exercises to do to fix it.
Ozwin Posted 25 January 2012 Author Posted 25 January 2012 £40? Cheaper than I expected tbh. Any recommendations? I was going to ask via my doctor but I bet the waiting lists are well long on the NHS.

Not very easy to look into online. See a physio it may be an issue with the mechanics of the way your body is when you walk. I had similar it turned out my pelvis was a bit crooked or similar which had a flow on effect down my body this combined with me wearing old orthodics i had grown out of was causing me pain. Got refered to a Podiatrist got fitted for new orthodics cost a packet but claimed on health insurance 2 years on never had any complaints. You would be stupid to not see a Physio, it may cost a bit but better than constant pain.

I was going to ask via my doctor but I bet the waiting lists are well long on the NHS. Well the only treatment I've ever needed for myself was from physio world. But you should know that as I am a PT at the gym and we have a bit of a deal it was also free for me. But still very good and I recommend them to all the gym members or my own clients who as about injuries. Cliets have given me good feedback too though. Www.physioworld.net or call 08000325543 and quote "RH001" for a free consultation (usually £40), if it ain't serious that's all you will need.
Ozwin Posted 25 January 2012 Author Posted 25 January 2012 I work in the Co-Op and have definitely had more problems with my legs since I started over a year ago. The constant standing for hours on end can't be good and I often find my legs ache like hell after 6 hours or so. Tbf I don't think the shoes I wear help but I reckon it is probably something to do with the way I stand.

Think I'll go doctors first and see what they say.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Definately tell that to a physio (if you go!) also, take your work shoes along with you too so they can see how you stand/work. I would never diagnose anything to a client/gym member as I am simply not qualified to unless I saw what happened and I would probably still recommend a pro to look at it (and none of my clients are allowed bad technique when exercising so they don't get injured on my watch!). If they are just a pussy though and have a low pain threshold sometimes it's just the "burn" of exercise so I make them stretch - most don't like that either so they soon shut up!
Wycombe Fox Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Cheers for that. Will look into it. Think I'll go doctors first and see what they say. No! You'll probably get the standard 'rest for 6 weeks' answer. Good luck.
Ozwin Posted 25 January 2012 Author Posted 25 January 2012 Tbf thats what they said about my ankle and it healed by then. This feels different. Like something that's not going to get better without being looked at. Its already been about 2 or 3 months, something's not right.
hackenbacker Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 three knee ops over the past 8 years. if you can run, play football etc it's not that serious ie not meniscus or ACL tear ... its tendonitis probably check out ... www.itendonitis.com/knee-tendonitis.html
foxfanazer Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I had something similar to what ur describing, never considered it a big injury but it's just one of those niggly and irritating ones. I went to the doctors and he said it was something called "osgood schlatus" (not sure on the spelling) he said its just cartilage and it just gets better in time and u can't actually do anything to improve it
MikeyT Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I've had Osgood Schlatter disease in my right knee since i was 12. Usually only people that play sports get it. I was never any good at sports so never played any so God knows how i got it. I still can't kneel down properly 20 years later.
danny. Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 http://www.imperialphysiotherapy.co.uk/ £32 a 30 min session there, I went there for a painful knee from running, sorted me out pretty quickly - well worth the money!
Haydos Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Osgood Schlatters occurs in the front of the knee between the patella and the tibia though
Ozwin Posted 25 January 2012 Author Posted 25 January 2012 I keep getting shin pains in the same leg too. Don't know if it's related but whenever I play football the inside of my shin is agony afterwards. I think adrenaline gets me through the game but afterwards it's actually really painful, I dunno if it's shin splints or if I've stress fractured it and never let it fully heal but it's not good. It feels bruised and hurts to touch, if I walk for a bit it feels almost like it's throbbing.
Itsthejoeker Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I thought I had damaged cartilage in my knee, went to see my physio, and told me it was posture related, went through a few months of treatment and it's all great now.
