Kitchandro Posted 2 February 2012 Posted 2 February 2012 I have nothing against creating an atmosphere, I spent my time from between 14 until the day we left Filbert St in SK1 and as a kid had to pay adult prices (thanks LCFC) and loved every minute of it, but all songs have to start somewhere, surely people are bright enough to learn quickly!!! How do you learn the words to numerous football chants, generally you hear them sung a few times and it goes from there, I still think to this day, of all the songs we sing, When your Smiling still means the most to me as it's something that is almost unique to us. I'm not trying to be negative and I'd love Filbert Way/ The Walkers/ KP Stadium to be as loud as we once where but I think it's difficult to accept, but with football being more family friendly and more geared towards the huge money raked in for boxes 22k-44k I was quoted when I asked, football has changed, there may still be a small section of 16-35 year olds that want to get drunk, stand and scream and cheer, but a high percentage of a crowd will be, young kids, families, over 50 or on corporate days out. Not raining on anyones parade but it's just a fact. I hate to keep repeating myself but the chant we were singing last night is catchy and upbeat, hence why lots of people were doing it. When you're smiling needs a revamp, it needs to be sung in a certain tune so that it is inspiring when sung, and gets people to want to bellow it out. You'll Never Walk Alone', for example, is that kind of song. Our version of When You're Smiling is very boring. Sooner or later I'm going to get really pissed before a match and start singing it differently, and if no one joins in (and I doubt they will, people hate change and can't fathom how to) then sod them

Kitchandro Posted 2 February 2012 Posted 2 February 2012 Blame Jersey Budd for ruining that to most of our fans with that camp offering now put out to everyone before the game. It was shit before that. It's always been sung in that drab tuneless way since I started going in the East Stand about 5 years ago. Jersey Budd is a tool though, terrible cover. It needs to be more like the Louis Armstrong/Dean Martin versions, in that tune but a bit quicker.

Sure I can muster one out and we'll get this going away at Millwall.
Lesta Legend Posted 2 February 2012 Posted 2 February 2012 Don't agree with the treatment of Gally though when he got took off, no need for the sarcastic cheering. He did play shit but you don't do that to one of your own players. Exactly support the team in whatever form that is, I thought gally was shocking and I hope Ben Marshall can relegate him to a squad player for good, but i had a go at someone who cheered - what's the point, dicks.

thybluefox Posted 2 February 2012 Posted 2 February 2012 A lot will hate me for this, but, When you're smiling is shit. Or at least it is the way we try and sing it. It has no rhythm, it just never sounds right.
s11nny Posted 2 February 2012 Posted 2 February 2012 I agree with the original post on how we should try get behind the team as much as possible (even when we aren't playing so well). I can be guilty of having a moan at times but who isn't. Its just the fans that go overboard with the constant negative boo's and shouting that need to make more of an effort to be positive I think. As for the chants, I don't agree with fans that refuse to do the poznan or sing and cheer to anything that isn't original. who gives a shit! we should celebrate however we want/ sing whatever we want because it creates a fun atmosphere and lifts everybody's spirits up including the lads on the pitch. We shouldn't care too much about what other teams think of us, which at the end of the day is the root cause of why fans want to be original and stand out. If we do something original then great, all the better I say, but we shouldn't have to knock the poznan or any sort of chant because we don't.
