Ply-off Points Target

Possible rather than probable. If we make it, great - if not, let's finish the season in style anyway and hope momentum takes us forward into next season.

It is, as always, the hope that is the unbearable bit.

We need to win the next game. Then we need to win the next game. Then we need to win the next game. Then we need to win the next game, etc. No point in targetting any position, we have struggled to put an kind of run of results together this season (a few draws and nodd win maybe). Old cliche but the next game is the most important, win it and start again.

Just finish the season well. Put together a run of wins and see what happens. I'm more intrigued to see what happens if we beat Norwich on Saturday!

What do you mean IF ......... And as for points let's go for 80 then we if we fall short we can still sneak in, just carry on in the same vein as of late, Becks scores in the league, four wins in a row, what am I on!!!!!!

Yet again I'm pinching this from Jeff on TB. Interesting reading.

Here is the top six on this date last season, their average points per game up to then, and their average points per game for the rest of the season:

Team PPG to 12/2 PPG after 12/2

QPR 1.97 ------------1.81

Cardiff 1.80 ---------1.62

Norwich 1.74-------- 2.00

Swansea 1.71 ------1.80

Forest 1.86 ---------1.28

Leeds 1.68 ---------1.33

You can see that four of those teams failed to continue their good form, with two teams having quite big drops in their points per game. Forest and Leeds would have finished in the bottom half if they'd had their end of season form for the whole season.

Leeds dropped out of the top six and were replaced by Reading - who were 12th at this stage last season, the same position Leicester are in now, with the same number of points and games played.

Reading went on a mental run of form though. Didn't they win 7 in a row? I don't think anybody realistically sees that happening for us.

Also, the amount of points that the 6th placed side has got historically is irrelevant. It's the amount of points that the 7th placed team gets that's of interest.
