Parafox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I have been given a driving experience as a Christmas gift. I get to drive just one of a number of supercars. I'm guessing some of the FT folk have done this already. My dilemma is, which car.. I can choose from Porsche 911, Audi R8, Aston Martin Vantage, Lamorghini Gallardo or Ferrari 458. I've kind of narrowed it down to either the Ferrai or the Lambo, based on them being the road cars I have least frequently seen. Any thoughts, guys?
HEGGSY Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 <p>Essentially however, the R8 and the Gallardo are very similar as Audi owns Lamborghini.
NeilyBoy Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I'd love to drive a Vantage. Makes anyone look like a boss.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I drove a Gallardo and a Ferrari 360 on one of these days. The Gallardo was much more fun on account of it being stick-shift and the Ferrari (as I believe all Ferraris are these days) was flappy-paddle. It's also 4WD (as is the Audi) so you feel alot more secure, doesn't feel like it might flip out so much.
Saxondale Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 The Ferrari or the Porsche will be the most exciting driving experience. The R8 will be quick but is a bit sterile, the Vantage is a bit too much of a cruiser. I'd go for the 458, it's the wildest.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Astra 1.6 left off the list? What sort of supercar driving experience is this? Edit: Actually, I think there's a MKIV parked behind that Ferrari. Go for that
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Astra 1.6 left off the list? What sort of supercar driving experience is this? One that isn't in Essex.
Saxondale Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Astra 1.6 left off the list? What sort of supercar driving experience is this? They're too rare.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Hmmmm, an "alternative" super car driving experience. If the record store falls through, what do you think Bellend? Morris Marina Austin Princess (Vanden Plas, of course!) Vauxhall Viva (Mk II) Hillman Avenger Take your pick!

Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I'd pick the mk I Allegro with the 'quartic' steering wheel. Good call. Which car had the steering wheel with only one spoke? On a side note, as a child I always wanted a car with a steering wheel like KITT's, like a plane's joystick, but realised how impractical it would be as soon as I started driving.
Parafox Posted 21 March 2012 Author Posted 21 March 2012 I'd love to drive a Vantage. Makes anyone look like a boss. If I was driving on the road, then I probably would choose the Vantage. But this is a track driving experience where, hopefully, I'll get to use some of the cars power and handling capabilities
Zingari Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Have you thought about taking an emergency first response vehicle out for a test drive parafox ? Something like an ambulance would be kind of exciting, especially if they let you use the wah wahs and the flashing lights and stuff .

I drive one of them (car or Ambulance) every working day.!! I can tell you the excitement never fades even after 20-odd years of driving them through traffic, wah wah's and all. It's a skill, but it's also great fun... and feeds my need for a feeling of dominating power... shame when the call turns out to be a cut finger
Saxondale Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Good call. Which car had the steering wheel with only one spoke? Various Citroens amongst others. Citroen CX was the famous one I think?

When I first met my girlfriend three years ago her Dad was driving an F Reg Austin Maestro. Sadly, he got rid of it before I had a chance to take it for a spin
General Smuts Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I drove a V8 Vantage at Silverstone a while back. Fecking brilliant, if not marred by the fact it pished it down.

Have you ever been tempted to use the wah wahs just when you are joyriding around trying to impress the ladies .They love first responders looking heroic you know . I’d be very tempted by it all
Parafox Posted 21 March 2012 Author Posted 21 March 2012 Me sarcastic? never ! Are you ever been tempted to use the wah wahs just when you are joyriding around trying to impress the ladies .They love first responders looking heroic you know . I’d be very tempted by it all I've never done that cos it's hard to letch when you're driving at speed but... once in Loughborough a group of female students did lift their shirts and flash their (rather attractive) boobs at me. I was driving normally at the time. And I get "chatted up" sometimes if i'm on standby in the centre of town at night. But they're always drunk... But it's always the firemen that are reputed to be the heroes... Even though I have pulled a guy from a burning car once (please don't take that as seeking any plaudits, it was just something I did)
Zingari Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 That is something to be very proud of Para I wouldn't like to get within 20 yards of a flaming vehicle. I've seen them blow , it's not pleasant at all
Mack Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Don't go for the Ferrari. I did this at a place near Loughborough and the Ferrari I drove was the spider with the H Gate stick and it was hard to drive. They have other Ferraris there with the paddles but it's the luck of the draw. The Lambos might be a bit garish but they are more fun.
