kyle09uk Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Just been watching the Tutle Boy documentary on Channel 4 and got me thinking what everyones opinion was if we introudeced a wage cap to players wages. Personally, I think its wrong so many people that trully matter (surgeons, doctors etc) are on a hell of a lot less dolla than many of the footballers.
acooling08 Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I reckon the cap should be around £200'000 a year.
ozleicester Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 There is a massive flaw with salary caps, it then requires a "draft" system, otherwise other leagues will just outbid the one with the cap. e.g. Ozleicester is the best player in the world at the moment and is playing for Leicester, football league institutes a salary cap of $250,000....and so, Barca (damn them they always take our players) walk up and offer $1million. Gbye Ozleicester, im off to Barca in a flash! alternatively FIFA introduces the cap and every competition in the world follows suit (hard to believe but ok) Ozleicester is the best in the world and playing for Citeh... Manure walk up and say, i can give you champs league, FA Cups, League championships etc etc and pay you the same as you get at Citeh for being abused and told your shit anyway....off i trot to Manure. Only alternative is that ALL players go into a draft.... if you finished top of prem league you get last pick in draft...if you finish bottom of conference you get 1st pick...can tell you now not many young potential superstars are going to be interested in getting drafted to Kettering. It will just cause a seperate league to be set up and away from FIFA... the IPL is a very rough example.
foxfanazer Posted 26 April 2012 Posted 26 April 2012 Needs to be done imo. Clubs would get round it somehow though with bonuses etc. I don't see how anybody needs to be on more than 25k a week

Players are paid so much now, but I think its just part of the game now. Introducing salary caps just in England will pretty much make the PL go from the best league in the world to poor as who'd want to come here- take a look at Rugby, but this is in a much bigger scale. Wouldn't work in my opinion, something which is impossible to go back on seeing as there's so much money in the game. Suppose the money and fame is an inspiration for kids to try and make it too.
DB11 Posted 27 April 2012 Posted 27 April 2012 Personally, I think its wrong so many people that trully matter (surgeons, doctors etc) are on a hell of a lot less dolla than many of the footballers. But footballers earn their wage. How much revenue do you think that Rooney's "name" earns Man Utd? It's surely only fair that his wage therefore reflects how much money he is bringing into the organisation. Surgeons don't really make the NHS money, so if they want more money you can replace them. If Rooney was replaced with some unknown quantity, then Man Utd's revenue would drop drastically as no one is buying shirts just so they can have Rooney on it.
Fox92 Posted 27 April 2012 Posted 27 April 2012 Needs to be done, they have too much power these days. I mean, footballers don't bother turning up to court to appear, that's wrong. They shouldn't be on more money than pilots, forces, doctors etc
