I want to see the club invest in young players with potential, too, but you have to mix those with some experience. I do understand your concern, but I don't think we're going to see a repeat of this season, purely because of the change in manager. Pearson clearly values researching a transfer target's personality and attitude, whereas I'm fairly sure that Sven wouldn't have bothered doing this. I think that's a major reason why this season turned out the way it did. Koren was voted Hull's player of the season, and he is still a good player at this level. Pearson knows this, as he managed him when he put in the performances that made him Hull's best player. Pearson knows he can get the best out of him, as he's done it before. The problem with Sven buying players like Mills and Beckford was that I don't think he really thought about getting the best out of them, or getting them to work as part of the team. I really don't think this is a problem now. I think we'll start to see a more cohesive looking team next season, rather than the bunch of individuals we've seen this season. I think we are going to see mostly young players for the future arrive this summer, but there might be some experienced players, as well.

Pearson likes his younger players, those he can influence, shape and mould into his own. He also seems to go for a certain type of personality, basically avoiding players who appear arrogant. BUT... He also needs some older heads in the squad. He absolutely needs that rough and tough midfield general who he can make the skipper and who can drag the kids up when their heads are down. That was the type of player that Sven sorely missed out on signing. IMO.
Nick Posted 5 May 2012 Posted 5 May 2012 I'm not sure there is any evidence to base an argument around the notion that Sven wildly purchased players without considering their attitude - maybe Sven's ability to man manage and the respect he commanded negated some of the considerations that NP is having to make as maybe he his own style lacks interpersonal tolerances and can result in unsuccessful relations with certain players which has been well documented..... (an equally as subjective argument) I do agree that the mix of youth and experience is a good move. I also firmly believe he needs the time and budget to sculpt his own side - the very things that in all honesty Sven never got. I have always said a manager needs a full pre-season followed by a full playing season before any judgement should be made. Sven didn't get this and I would be a hypocrite if I argued NP deserves any less.
